Luckiest guy around??

Hey everybody, I'm new to the forum. Just a little background information about me.My names Mike, I'm 21 and live in St.Louis,I've loved 4th gen preludes ever since I was little and ended up buying a 93' si when I was 15 years old. Long story short it needed a new engine, and I never had the money and time to install one so 2 years ago after siting in my backyard for several years I sold it to a nearby mechanics shop. Now six years 5 cars later I have the chance of a lifetime. In the past week I am now purchasing 2 93' Prelude si's The first one is completely stock red, automatic,130,000 miles and all it needs is a new a/c compressor. My brothers good friend who is moving to Chicago is selling it to me for $500!!! Then like a day later my uncle calls me and tells me his co-worker is selling his 93 prelude si 5spd show car, bored out, pistons, crank, etc. body kit, needs paint and little interior work for $1200 including brand new rims and tires!! So right now i'm just kinda lost for words. I just sold my 95 integra gsr for $3500 and bought 2 preludes and still have $1500 minus the cost of a new a/c compressor. So I guess my question is what should I spend the $1500 on??

I dont have any pics yet, and I actually still need to pick up both cars. One this weekend and one possibly the next. The show car has been sitting for 3 years due to the owner getting married and having kids, and needs its interior put back in seats, dash etc, and also needs an actuator installed to the alarm to open the doors because it has shaved door handles, so my uncle is going to help me put that together before I take it home in like 2-3 weeks. The stock one I will tow to my house this weekend, as I was told that driving with a bad a/c compressor for periods of time can ruin an engine. Both cars run well and are very drivable. I've decided to give the automatic to my dad since he could use it for a good gas mileage car, not to mention I'm not big on automatics.I plan on first doing a complete tune-up to both cars.I have questions about the a/c compressor problem on the automatic.First would it be ok to purchase the refurbished one on ebay as it costs only $150 and will save me $200 off the price of a new unit?(also includes a lifetime warranty) Second does anyone else here who's replaced their a/c compressor have any suggestions or trouble shooting pointers? I was told that you need to flush the system ofcourse, change the accumulator, expansion valve, and then just add oil, install and enjoy. Is there anything else I should know, and can I get away with using the old accumulator or expansion valve? Thanks -Mike

Mike, I would suggest you do some reading on the forums here, and you will find the most important maintenance items to replace. Make sure you cover at a minimum all the parts included in a 100k mi tune-up.

Thanks guys for the quick reply's. I bought the a/c compressor on ebay and will install it upon arrival. My cousin specializes in auto a/c and said the same thing as noopie to make sure and vacuum the system also he said the only thing else I need is the actuator and freon. So I should have the automatic up running soon for my dad. Its crazy cause my dad has had nothing but ford trucks for the last 32 years! so it should be quite a change of scenery for him. As far as I know the other Si (mine) is quite fixed up from what I hear. I havent had much time to look at the engine as I only inspected and test drove it once. I dont know any of the brands yet,but I know its been bored out,new pistons, crank, rods, intake, headers, full exhaust etc. I still need to sit down with the previous owner and figure everything out that he has done, but according to my uncle(his good friend) he's done over $10000 in engine and body work! The body kit is pretty sweet, and he has molded the license plate part in the back on a tilt. Eventually I wanna boost her, but I've read alot and I know all in good time I've owned 2 boosted cars a 90' laser, 91' mr2, and then I bought a gsr last year which got me back into the Honda scene. Anyways I'll do the 100k mi tune-up Ken brought up and keep you guys updated. Thanks again. -Mike
