Low rpm .. Help .

My 1993 prelude recently been having low rpm, like literally going to 200 rpm or lower, and twice shut down on me completely. The car itself has 177,XXX miles on it. Any suggestion why its going so low ? please help and thanks !

More info. Is it a constant low idle? When hot or cold or both? After driving or not? If its a constant low idle adjust the I.A.C.V screw to a higher idle. Did you try resetting the ecu? Not a whole lot to go off here big guy.

my bad, just sorta new. well it was after a drive, so its warm and i had the ac on as well. i notice it only happens when i turn on the ac. it literally like goes all the way down which makes a shake or rumble on the engine. Is it suppose to be at a constant 500-700 rpm, because that what i heard from a friend .

and no i didnt restart the ecu yet. and how do you reset it.

thanks much

I would start by cleaning the I.A.C.V it may just be dirty and is not adjusting for the extra load from the a/c. Use carb cleaner and get all the carbon out of the screen then bolt it back on. If you dont know what that is google "prelude idle air control valve" and look at images there are lots of pics. Are you having any idle bounce on cold starts? Thats normally a sign that the i.a.c.v is shot. Worst case is your compressor is starting to lock up but a shop would have to diagnose that.
