low rpm engine stutter

Recently my engine (94 VTEC) has developed a condition where if I give the car more than, say, a quarter throttle when the rpms are below 2500, the car will buck and stutter until it reaches around 3000-3500 rpm, whereupon it will accelerate normally. Addtionally, it only happens when the car is warm.

Last night, I took it for a ride and I now notice that it also happens higher up in the rev range when the car is WOT or close to WOT. It will accelerate as normal for a bit under WOT, then it seems to lose its steam momentarily, then VTEC kicks in and it seems fine. Bog would be the word that comes to mind. However, it doesn't jerk and buck such as it does at lower rpms.

Also, we changed the fuel filter today, but it didn't make any difference. Could this possibly a vacuum related problem?

Any ideas? I haven't checked the computer yet, but it's not giving me any "check engine" light.

Thanks in advance - Peter

Hmm......check out your ignition components. I had similar problems and it turned out to be fried ignition wires. I mean like check the plugs, dist cap and rotor, and wires.

I was thinking clutch slippage but it doesn't seem like it happens to you when the clutch needs to hold the most.

Yeah, sounds like plug wires to me.

Thanks

Thanks for all the suggestions. Well, we figured out what it was... kinda.

It was a combination of bad fuel (perhaps it had some water in it), which was the low rpm part, and the high rpm part was a clogged EGR.

I would recommend everyone pull off their EGR assmbly; mine was almost completely clogged. The little vacuum flap could barely move! Scrape out all the carbon deposits and spray some carb cleaner on it, then put it back

There is still a little dead spot down low, but that may have always been there, or perhaps some of the bad fuel is still present.
