I'm considering sat. radio, have an XM-ready HU, but the tuner (alpine) costs waaaaaaay too much. Does anyone here have pics of the Delphi, Terk, Sony, etc. stand-alone units installed in their car?
sorry. i have the alpine xm tuner with my 9815. i love it. the tuner is out of the way. you can control all the stations through your 9815. it is well worth the money. in my opinion.
where did you put your antenna. does it work just fine inside the car...perhaps on the rear deck...cause aint no way im putting an antenna on my antennaless car.

^^you talkin' to me?? if so...i used to have one of the huge ugly antennas mounted on my back window. i know have a new (came out in dec.) blitz micro antenna. it is smaller than a book of matches. currently i just have it on my trunk lid. i have been too lazy to run the wire under the window molding. eventually i will probably put it on the roof above the rear window. i will try to find some pics.
OK here we go...sorry about the crappy pics.
As you can see the Delphi swivels forwards so I can get into the glovebox.
The power to the Delphi is hardwired to my headunit so both gon on simultaneously. I have a tip-ring-sleave connector to RCA that connects to the headunit. And the antenna is set between both rear speakers on the rear dash. Works great from there.
I was thinking of putting it in the console like that (though mine looks a little different). How easy is it to reach and tune?
That sure is one tiny antenna. Notice any difference between that and the bigger ones? As for the Alpine tuner, I'd love to go that route, but the best price I've seen is $250, not including the antenna. I'm leaning towards the Terk XM Commander for $125 from Amazon.
^agreed. My gf paid $100 bucks for everything and I installed it myself. Its not worth buying tuner and new XM Ready headunit unless you got loads of dough. Im hoping soon they will have headunits that have the tuner built in thus eliminating the need for a seperate tuner box. In that case I would definately go for it.
mark if you were talking to me, i usually rest my arm on the arm rest so tuning is no problem. I also have a remote but it is rarely used.
edit: whats funny is that people look in and they think its some kind of GPS or something!
alpine will have (or already does) have a head unit out that has the built in xm tuner. it lists around $350.
i love my new antenna. it is the single plug type (newer style) so i got an adapter to use it with the alpine xm tuner. works great. every bit as good as the old big one. plus no wind noise like the old one
we dont get sat. radio in hawaii. when i get back to the mainland, i will get it. i think the bluegrass and techno/trance stations would be awsome to have.
i have an alipine tuner, which i used to use with my 9815 but xm sux becasue they dont have any techno, i think i am going to get the siruis tuner when it comes out for alpine do soemtime soon...so if you want it pm me i also have a have an antena..
I had my sirius terk antenna mounted in the same spot as thepreludedude, on my 4th gen. Worked great and was really easy to route the wire from the trunk to the tuner in the cabin.
