Looking at a local 'lude..need some other insight first.
Hey all,
I'm completely new to this honda tuner scene.. Have been doing tons of research on different cars (civics, 'ludes, etc...) trying to find one that best fits what I am looking for. Overall, It's down to a eg series hatch ('92-'95) or a 4th gen 'lude.
NOW! I am not trying to sit here and argue over whether to get a lude or a hatch... This isn't the place. Strictly am telling you where I am coming from.
I have found a local 'lude that the owner will possibly sell. it has 199,991k on the speedo, orig. engine, etc. Stock (so far as I can tell, details are vague at this point as the owner had very little time to talk to me). It IS a 5spd... Has rust on both rear wheelwells, bottom corner of pass. side door, and little bits on the top of the sunroof.
NOW, as of right now, this is literally all I know. The owner is going to give me a call in the next day or so and I plan to get more information then. My question (with more to come, I'm sure) is this 'lude even worth my time with this many miles on the odo?
Where are you located? Are Preludes hard to find in your area? I wouldn't get one with that many miles simply because I can easily find a few 4th gens for sale in chicago with 100,000-150,000 miles daily.
I'm not saying ~200,000 miles is a lot for Honda Preludes as we all know there are many out there running with more than that, but why buy one with that many miles if you don't have to? You don't know if it has an H22, H23 or F22 yet but even if it was a 5speed, had rust, an H22 and 200,000 I wouldn't pay much for it.
Basically, it's hard to tell without driving the car and/or looking at very detailed pics. Once you're hitting 200,000 miles parts will just need to be replaced for regular maintenance down the road.
Hope you get a 4th gen though, they're gorgeous cars
dude i dont know about getting that particular car. preludes are definitely an awesome car, but im sure you can find one with lower mileage, just be patient. definitely dont get a civic civics are ummm well just civics. preludes are secksy!
I'm located in State College, PA. Ludes are real rare around here. Only two on the road that I know of, and one is boosted and swapped to produce an estimate 520whp. I'm going to try and get more information on this car for the time being. I only need the engine to last me two years of DD driving before I have the money to do a JDM h22a swap.
I'm not too sure on the year to be honest. Any way of telling from the exterior/what you can see through the windows? All I've been able to do is examine the outside, see mileage, and give him my phone number. I have a feeling the owner would let it go for reasonably cheap if I decide to get serious (or he ever calls me )
But I bought my car, with an h22 at about 160,000. It looked gorgeous, minus the clearcoat coming off in some spots, and very few rust spots. Had rims, coilovers, and a momo steering wheel. I spun a rod at 175,000 because of something the previous owner had done that I had never noticed until it was too late. Besides the engine I had to replace the axles, brakes, rotors, wires, a few gaskets due to leaks, and all the other normal maintainence, paying 4500 for mine.
I'll say don't get it, unless it's cheap...around 2K, definately not more than 3K. My car hasn't reached that mileage STILL, so I'd get a GOOD look at the car before I bought it. I love mine, don't get me wrong..but that doesn't mean the person that had it before you did so much...
as far as i know, only the 92' had the rear armrest. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. If the e-brake handle is recessed into the middle of the console, its def 92-93. if its between the driver seat and console its 94-96. Electro gauges, 94+. Power mirror controls on center console? 94+. If they're on on the drivers side door, 92-93.
I know mine has the ebrake on the right side, in between the passenger and the middle of the console. The power mirror control is up on the door panel, and the spots in the console that people like to put toggle switches in are in between the drivers seat and the middle of the the console...but as far as I know all 4th gens have electronic gauges..
but as far as I know all 4th gens have electronic gauges..
Not all of them have electro illuminescent gauges. If the gauges are all black when the car is turned off, they are electro. If they are white and visible, they are not. You can tell the difference in the two pretty well.
