looking at changing belts and parts...what should i change for maintenance?

Hi folks,

I've got about 220K miles on my 94 vtec and the last time i did a major engine service on it (i.e. changing out belts, gaskets, etc...) was about 100K ago. So i'm looking for a run-down on ALL the parts I should be changing out when I decide to do the major servicing.

Simply put, does anyone have a list of ALL the things I should be changing out when I'm in the engine and furthermore, does anyone have a GOOD place to buy all the parts from?

thnx

BTW, I should mention that I've changed A LOT of parts on the car over the last 20K miles:

rotors
pads (ceramic)
spark plug wires
thermostat
many of the rad hoses
all fluids (brake, coolant, clutch, etc...)
obviously filters (added cold air intake and K&N)
battery
vacuum lines

So I know the timing belt will need to be done...but not sure what else i should undertake at the same time.

13405-PT0-004
14400-P13-014
91213-PR3-004 x2
15114-PT0-003
91212-PT0-003
91233-PT0-003
19200-P13-003
38920-P0F-J01
56992-P13-003

I wouldn't skimp out on any of that, if you're gonna do a 100k service, do it right, replace everything behind the timing covers.

So I see the following recommendations:
timing belt
balance shaft belt

water pump with gasket
timing belt tensioner bearing
balance shaft tensioner bearing
timing belt tensioner spring
balance shaft belt tensioner spring
valve cover gasket set
two accessory drive belts
front crankshaft seal
camshaft seal
balance shaft seal
balance shaft seal retainer kit

Is that about it and would you say there's any others?

^You're buying a lot of useless crap, those tensioner pieces rarely fail, all the part numbers I posted along with the valve cover gasket set will be all that you need. You can also do the seal retainer, never seen a car without it leak from that seal though. It's usually the o-ring for the rear balancer that leaks before anything.

Don't get why you'd replace a control arms unless you were in a wreck and bent it, the bushings inside can be replaced rather than buying a new one.

The main things you need are timing belt, balance belt, both cam seals, front balance seal, rear balance o-ring, crank seal, water pump, outer belts and valve cover gasket. If you buy aftermarket on any of these you might as well blow the engine up intentionally.

So here's what I've got quoted out...

Part No. Description Quantity Unit Price Total Price
13405-PT0-004 BELT, BALANCER TIMING (UNITTA) 1 $32.91 $32.91
14400-P13-014 BELT, TIMING (155YU24 A-555) 1 $51.07 $51.07
91213-PR3-004 OIL SEAL (29X43X8) (ARAI) 2 $5.11 $10.22
15114-PT0-003 GASKET B, OIL PUMP (ARAI) 1 $3.38 $3.38
91212-PT0-003 OIL SEAL (40X52X7) (NOK) 1 $6.18 $6.18
91233-PT0-003 OIL SEAL (27X40X8) (NOK) 1 $5.15 $5.15
19200-P13-003 WATER PUMP (YAMADA) 1 $65.30 $65.30
38920-P0F-J01 BELT, COMPRESSOR (BANDO) 1 $19.43 $19.43
56992-P13-003 BELT, POWER STEERING PUMP (MITSUBOSHI) $12.76 $12.76

Lastly, I didn't see an Auto Adjuster in your recommended parts list 14520-P13-013, for $74, but wouldn't this be a good idea to replace at the same time?

The total comes to about $300 for everything...does that sound about right and it's all OEM direct from Majestic Honda... I wouldn't be putting in after market non-OEM stuff in my car.

Yeah, that price is right. You only need to replace the tensioner if it is found leaking upon belt change. Just make sure when you remove the service bolt to compress the tensioner to not spill the oil out of it, I wouldn't doubt that most of the stories of failure were caused by the person who last changed the belt. The tensioner holds 0.8mL of oil if I remember correctly.
