Lightweight flywheel

I recently put a stage 2 clutch in my 4th gen VTEC, and I am experiencing some slippage as I am starting off in first gear, as well as I shift into other gears. Does this have anything to do with my lightweight flywheel? or should I tear it back apart to dignose? Thanks in advance

hmm you might want to adjust your clutch, did you replace the throwout bearing as well?

i don't think it has anything to do with your flywheel but i could be wrong

It shouldn't have anything to do with your lightweight flywheel. Did you make sure to break in the clutch properly? If so, during the install, did anything (i.e., oil, grease, etc.) get on the friction surface? If the answer to both of these is "no", then I'd try adjusting the clutch like petern101 said.

You might also want to play a little with the clutch pedal. Try letting it out slowly and see if the same thing happens. I know that Exedy clutches have an issue in some applications that feels like the clutch is too tight, but it's actually too loose. You could try searching to see what the specific issue is. I have it documented somewhere, but not here.

BTW.. I got the XTD Stage II Clutch (not sure if there's a diff)...it seems to be engaging a little little better now that I've had it in a few weeks...however, the clutch still shutters if I casually let the pedal out...if I agressively work the clutch, then it does OK. My question is if the throwout bearing wasn't seated...if this would cause the clutch to slip???

I imagine that would definitely affect your clutch performance in a negative way, though I can't say for certain what it would do. The throw-out bearing is pretty easy to install though, so it would be hard to install it improperly. Are you sure that's the case?

If the clutch is a full-face unit, then it should be similar enough to the Exedy organic. From what I've heard, these take ~500 miles to break in. You may want to drive with it for a few weeks and see if it 'settles in'. If not, then you may have to take it back out and see what's up. I would definitely make that the last thing you do though...did you try adjusting the clutch free play?

when we were re-installing the tranny we had to tilt and move it sideways to get it in, I noticed the throwout bearing had slipped out from the fork and we had reach in there to slide it back in. So I thought it may had slipped out again and this may have been why the clutch was slipping on me (not realizing the 500 mi break in may be effecting performance)...anyway, I readjusted the pedal to where there's a couple of inches of freeplay before I feel any resistance and it seems to be working better. The light weight flywheel makes the RPM's drop back down alot faster that before, so I started driving the car a little more aggressively and it does fine.
