Legend Caliper swap...help please!

I've got everything together (finally!) for a legend caliper swap on my 4th gen...I just have two questions you all might be able to help out with:

1. Where did you guys get the aluminum to make the pad shim (I'd rather not use an old pad)?

2. Will a dremel cut 5mm thick aluminum? If so, which bit would you recommend?

I just got my dremel the other day, and am still a bit in the dark about its capabilities.

If anyone can help out, that would be great...I'll write up a full review once the swap is complete!

you should be able to buy sheet aluminum in varying thickness from a hardware store. Or look in the trusty yellow pages under "metal", there should be businesses that sell sheet aluminum.

Legend Caliper swap

Why Legend Caliper swap? Did you hear it would work better then your own calipers? How much was the legend caliber cost you. I got NSX calipers twin piston on my 92 prelude and it cost me 250 Total cost. let me know how it is. You may need steel brake line mine did. T he old ones broke the first time I use the nsx caliper.

Cutt 5mm aluminum is not easy esp. to make the shim the shape of the pad ... unless you have a mill..

Using a dremel to cut two of these will probalby burn out all the bearings in your new dremel...

Just take an old pad and grind (or chisel) off the pad material (and then grind clean- You cna use the dremel for this)... until all that's left is the metal shoe.. It'll look much cleaner (actually I'd be surprised if you even notice it's there since they fit so well..

If you can get me a full set of NSX calipers for $250.00 I'll sell off my Legend ones...

Just go to hondaprelude.com and do a search on nsx calipers
I found it from just doing a search. There was one dude selling them for 200 but he said I have to rebuild it so I went with the other guy for 250. It been two month so I dont know if he still have them.

The legend calipers are twin piston and are about 16% larger in piston surface area than the NSX pistons. The NSX piston diameters are 34 and 40 mm while the Legend piston diameters are 38 and 42mm.

This is true. I went with the legend calipers because of the (slightly) chunkier pistons, and the fact that they don't have NSX written on them.

Damn...so it looks like a dremel is not going to cut it (sorry) on the aluminum shims.

I got the legend calipers with powerslot rotors goodridge ss lines and axxis metal master pads. I sincerely hope that they'll do s.thing for my prelude's stopping power.

Right now the car shudders hard at stopping at anything over 50 mph or so...

Guys, where did you get the Legend calipers from?? I am having a hell of a time finding them. None of the salvage yards that I called have them. Pepboys doesn't even sell them.
Any ideas???
Side note: DAMN ViZ, you car looks SWEET with those rims.

andy, i got mine from B&M/King George auto parts in clinton, md. give them a call they usually have a bunch of ludes and legends and they specialize in later model imports. i might have found the only legend with the right calipers when i got mine but they might have gotten more cars in since then too.

Wasn't there a thread on this where someone said not to use aluminum shims cause of the heat and stuff and that old brake pads would make better shims, do a search on this

You can use 93-95 Legend LS Coupe or 94-95 Legend GS 4-Door calipers. Look at www.woodfins.com or www.mypartshop.com and see what comes up. You should be able to find them for less than $200.

So the coupe and the Sedan use the same calipers?? I got quoted $150 for both from a 93 Legend GS coupe. They are not rebuilt but they have a lifetime warranty on them...so they say. Should I get these???
