lawnmover noise!

Helllp! Ever since i bought my car i've had this awful lawnmower nosie coming from the engine. It only happens when I step on the gas and when i rev it and let go i can here it "putt putt putting back down to idle. My friend said it sounded like it was coming from behind the metal plate that says "HOT!", so i'm assuming it's coming from the headers or that general area. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it? If i had a hole in my headers, would my engine sound like a lawnmower?

You might have a leak in your exhaust manifold (header). Remove the heat shield that covers the header and inspect the piping for cracks, holes, or any other general leak.

Hmm.. ok I'll take a look at it. Is there such thing as an Exhaust Manifold Gasket? I was on recycler and saw exhaust manifold gasket seals. If it is could that be the possible cause of my problem, because the hoise is like right behind the head shield so it's at the uppermost top of the headers.

yes... between the head and exhaust manifold there is a gasket.

buzzing i assume? the factory metal gasket should hold up pretty good. but take that heat shield off and look. i think its 3 bolts, its worth your time.

get your head down there and listen closely. buzzing should be pretty obvious. if its the valves, then it will be obvious-rapid tapping like sub said.

check it and post back up

it turns out that 1 of the 3 bolts that connect the headers to the down pipe was missing, i guess when i went over some rough ground it caused the ehader to improperly sit on the down pipe and a lot of air was getting out, thus making a horrable noise. It's fixed now and i didn't have to spend 200 for new exhaust manifold
