Koyo R1979 Radiator

I just received this radiato, it looks good and all the fan mounting locations look like stock and I have been assured by the seller that it will fit like OEM on the 92-96 H22A Preludes.

Has anyone got any experience with this model? Most of the stuff on the web say its a direct OEM replacement. The core and tanks are thicker than stock.

But then there are some threads on PO where guys have stated they had trouble, then some others had no trouble. I am only guessing some didn't get the correct part # ?

The quality looks 1st class and the mounting locations for the fan shroud look good.

I think it may be a good idea to flush the new radiator first?

Not a lot better. I paid $289USD for the R1979, plus $100 delivery (I'm in Australia).

crdcz03, so it fits ok then? I have to order a rad cap for it as the one I have doesn't fit. I have ordered a Type-F Spoon item.

Perfectly. Don't forget to take the rubber pieces off of your stock radiator (bottom of radiator) and put them on the new Koyo.

Rubber pieces? I guess it'll make sense when I start the job. Its good to hear it goes on ok.

It seems quite thick compared to stock, I was worried.

Did you flush the new rad first? I filled mine up with water and hosed it out a few times . . .

Anymore tips on things to keep in mind?

^those rubber pieces just kinda lay there. think of them as "bushings" for your rad. once you remove the radiator its really simple.

i need to buy one of these, btw can you provide a link of where you got it? thanks. i've been looking into one of these

I wouldn't worry about a flush. Chances are that rad is factory flushed & certainly will be cleaner than anything you run through it.

Yeah could you let us know where you got it because I can't find them anywhere on the net for that price.
It would be sweet if I could save some money because I'm also looking at a high shipping cost.

Here is the link.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KOYO-...QQcmdZViewItem

If you contact the seller and ask him some questions about shipping etc he'll give you a $10 discount . . . . he did for me.

i used an aftermarket fan, space is tight down where the fans bolt to so goodluck with that lol

and on a sidenote: i didnt buy an aftermarket fan b/c my stock one didnt fit (i didnt even try to fit it), i bought it b/c i wanted to mount it on the front of the radiator

wow that seller is even in the area, i could pick it up!!!

btw, stock fans won't work. i just replaced my h22 fan for the spare h23 one i had (h22 one had a busted fan) they have different bolt patterns btw. also they stick out way too much and seeing as this is a dual core. it would just make it more a pita to even think about fitting it.

Hmmm that isn't what I wanted to hear. I was told that it would bolt up like stock.

This is what the seller told me:

Quote:
This radiator is also made to fit in the proper vehicles directly. If you have made no major space limiting modifications around that are of your car, everything will fit and fanshroud, condenser, etc will fit on fine. If you are interested in this part, make me a best buy offer for $10 off my listing price. I will accept it if I see your user name.
I have also read that you have use use H22A fans with this radiator otherwise it will have clearance issues. This radiator is for VTEC 92-96 Preludes only. It won't fit non Vtec.

^well thats the only thing different in the cars between a h23 and h22. its the fans.

i had a small leak in my h23 rad. when i bought the front clip off a vtec jdm prelude, it came with a "new" radiator + fan. all i had to do was totally remove the old rad + fan and drop in this one. fitment was normal.

basically you have to keep either all h22 stuff, or all h23 stuff. i'm assuming when they say you can bolt up stock fans from a vtec because the vtec fans use slightly different bolt up patterns.

Ah I know what you mean now. Yeah the h23 and h22 fans are different. The shroud has different mounting pattern. That's why I mentioned that the R1979 is only for H22A 92-96 ludes.

^nope. the fans will fit if you have the rad. + fans outside the car.

now inside the engine bay, i'm thinking it might not have enough room. plus slim fans aren't all that expensive.
