Knocking at rear suspension - Honda Prelude Forum

I'm not much of a suspension person... I''m assuming my struts might be shot.. Everytime I hit bumps, cracks in the road, manholes, etc the rear of my car will knock (almost like a loud rattle) and squeek pretty loudly. Any help would be great. I'll try and post a video soon.

one quick and easy thing to check, it could be you rear sway bar. one of your sway bar mounts may have rusted out and caused the mount to drop. when you hit bumps and thing in the road it will make a knocking noise.
i would look under the rear just to see if that is the problem. its an easy fix if it is.

If it isn't the sway bar then a good guess would be the strut has gone bad. Might be time for a whole car suspension upgrade! If not replacing all struts then at least be sure to replace both rears.

If struts are approaching 200,000 I would bet that is it. Could be your bushings going out too.

i remember reading somewhere about shock knock...not sure if this is the case but it had to do something with the upper metal collar was too long or something..

not positive but maybe?

I have this knocking noise as well and when I checked it was a bushing on the sway bar mounts like zsud suggested. I just havent got around to replacing it but I can tell when I pull the wheel off that is the problem.
