knocking- ratatatatatatat..

some one pls help. yes i checked out the search button and came up with nothing.

my SR knocks when the engine is fully warmed up. when i cold start it, its fine it seems normal. after driving it hard, it only knocks when its on idle ONLY and when i gas it, the knocking stops. also when im releasing the clutch or press the brake pedal while on IDLE i can make the knocking sound go on and off (remember only when the engine is warmed up half way). weird?? last time it was the generic cold-air intake which was hitting the hood. but now i put on a short ram and it knocks only on these symptoms. im not losing any power whatsoever and it drives like normal. although once in awhile i hear this HISSING sound but thats w/ the cooling system but not anything involving metal hitting metal.. but this knocking is ****in annoying. it goes rat-tat-tat-tat like a machine gun. its on and off sometimes i dont get it sometimes it comes on. what could it be? main bearings? clutch?

pls help asap

When's the last time you adjusted your valves? I know valves are supposed to be quieter as they get warmer, but I would go ahead and adjust the valves if you didn't already do so. Maybe you can also try to retard your timing a bit. Might be when your engine gets warmer, you're having engine knock, but from what you described, it doesn't sound like detonation though. Or maybe there's just some loose screws or bolts somewhere in the enginebay, but that doesn't really explain the relation to the temp. Sorry, I'm not much help.

check your oil. do you do regular maintenance to it? if you run without oil you can spin a bearing and it would cause knocking like that. usually and can only be fixed by rebuild.

If its a ticking noise at idle, its very normal.

I have never heard a 2.3 that didn't tick.

oil is good. im using valvoline full synthetic 10w30 and i just changed the oil last week. i dont think its the usual h23 tick. its different and its real loud, its a metal hitting metal sound. i'll get a valve adjustment this week to see if thats it.

sup man this is asian1 from RS man cool another lower mainlander but yah checks your valves maybe your t-belt is about to go too if it is a rasping noise on the right side of the engine that may be it if it is coming from the left then you are looking into bigger trouble maybe the bottom end of the engine

Don't take it to Honda, they'll only rape you and give you some lame reason why your car is making noise. Take it to a reliable mechanic instead.

This is going to sound ***, but try it, it may help.

Take a long screw driver and put the handle to the flap on the outside of your ear (extra long screw driver would help) and then go slowly putting the tip to different parts of the valve cover. It should get really loud over one part. If it does, then it's a valve. Do the same thing to the block in front of each one of the cylinder walls.... if it's loud in the block in one place over the others, then it's something in your bottom end.

i dont know what the hell it is. the knocking has stopped over the past 4 days. might be the clutch? cuz when im on neutral and put the gear in reverse, and slowly release the clutch i can hear a loud push and it jerks. but when i put in 1st gear and do same thing it doesn't jerk.
