knock sensor | help

i have a JDM f22b swap in my car ... it was done before by the last owner. Well the problem i have is the engine check light it On .. i have reset the ecu several times but once i drive for couple of mins it will come back on .. and it will stay on until i reset it again.

Anyways .. i checked the ecu code .. is seems there is something wrong with the knock sensor. I got it checked with my mechanic today .. and after inspecting the engine bay .. we found out that the guy who did the swap used the old H23 harness and Ecu and the knock sensor is just hanging above the oil filter.

It seems that F22b doesn't have a knock sensor in the first place ... anyways my question to u guys is what should i do to get rid of this problem so my engine check light will go .. and what is a knock sensor for .. ?? if it essential where and how can i mount it in the engine.

Any kind of help or suggestion will be appreciated

thanks guys ..

knock sensor is a sensor to sense any knocking in the engine...

and when it does... it adjust the timing and the knocking goes away ....

try using a 92-95 F22B1 ECU.... if you have a friend with the same engine as you... try using his ECU.....

thats weird how the previous owner had a Si motor... and decided to downgrade the motor.... most people would get the same engine or do a H22 swap....

the previous owner didnt downgrade...the f22b is an equivalent to the h23. As a matter of fact the F22B motor has a a little more torque than the h23 engine

^No it doesn't, it has slightly less torque.

is it possible to just unplug the knock sensor from the harness, or will the CEL continue to light up?

Btw, sorry, but it has less torque, the F22 is a 2.2L, with probably a slightly shorter stroke than the H23, but whether or not that detail is correct, it still produces less torque, or a "weaker" torque curve (whichever way you want to look at it) than the H23.

It should work(without a CEL) as long as it's still plugged into the harness. I believe it's just looking for continuity.

Well, your best bet to get rid of the light is to replace the knock sensor. You may be able to find a good place in the block to bolt it to as well so that it will actually function properly.

Alternative ould be to go and get a JDM F22B ECU and replace the H23A1 one with it. Since the engine doesn't have a KS th ECU for that engine wouldn't look for one and your problem is solved.

HTH,
