Just smogged my jdm h22..

Had to bring my car to a test only center and this was in California. Guys that were there were super nice. Had coffee and net for in the waiting room. After it was done I sitting in my car looking at something. The guy comes out says is everything ok? I was like yea. He said ok be careful going out you don't want to scrape the front, nice car.

Good news I passed but just barely. Test came out as following..

HC (PPM)

Test MAX AVE MEAS
15 mph 88 21 88
25 mph 53 13 53

CO (%)

Test MAX AVE MEAS
15 mph .52 .06 .19
25 mph .50 .05 .12

NO (PPM)

Test MAX AVE MEAS
15 mph 704 150 379
25 mph 738 136 111

Why were my HC (PPM) numbers so high? I warmed the the car before bringing in. Only things I had on the car were a Greddy Cat back Magnacor wires. Could this be caused by my timing being off or bad plugs?

You've got unburnt fuel. Either your cat is toast(which is unlikely because usually you're CO numbers would be high as well) or you're running really rich.

also, they are required to check the timing... so if its not at 15 they might not be able to test it. thats what they told me when i smogged my JDM H22

Congrats on the passing grade. I hate CA SMOG people... one guy tried to tell me one time that my ignition timing was off by +10° (even though I passed all other inspection). I said, "No way that is possible, I just adjusted the timing this morning to stock 15° and then went to my mechanic before the test and had him make sure everything was a-okay". The guy refused to let me handle his timing light and said that his guy could adjust it right there for $15. I called BS and drove back to my mechanic (a couple blocks away) and told him the whole story and he once again checked the timing only to find that it was still at the 15° mark. I went back to the SMOG guy and reported to him my findings and he re-smogged my car and never re-checked the timing.

What a tool...
