Just picked up a 92 lude, minor probs, but good deal?

Hello, i'm new to the forums and I'm looking forward to seeking and sharing some info here!

Well, i juss got a 1992 Honda prelude S, 5spd. with a F22A1 motor.
It was a church donated car and they listed it since they would rather use the money. I took opportunity and purchased it for $900.
Clean title, 316K miles, Drives pretty smooth.

I hear a slight 'knocking' while driving, mostly in 2-3 gear. In 5th gear it drives fine and no noise.

Valve adjustment? Knocking sensor? Idn..I'm havin one of my good friends that has owned a prelude in passt coming to take a look at it.

what you think? was it a good buy? is this a good start for a project and what motor would anyone recommend me replacing it with? Seems like everyones a fan of the h22a. a bit pricey, but looks like you get what you pay for. The car is all lined up for a paint job, Black, had a few dents and rust but all is pulled and covered

Thanks guys!

welcome.....your knocking could be low on oil or valve lash maybe even a slight bend in one of the valves.. could be minor or something alot bigger since im sure the engine has never had a overhaul im assuming and its got 316K on it... as far as engine goes h22 or h22a is what you want.. that gives you so many options on where to go or even if you leave it stock youll enjoy the engine for its VTEC

sounds like a good deal to me! and yes the knocking could be minor, or something big. as for a new engine, i recommend getting the H22A, its not too expensive, easy to swap, and its a great engine. that way you have a newer car! with the engine only having 50k or less when you put it in!

Good luck with the car!

thanks guys, and yeah the h22a is probably what im targeting for.

And i just did an oil change, so it eliminates one of the options for the rattle/knock noise.

Ill have my valves checked and more stuff checked around and will eventually find the issue. Thanks again!
