Just installed timing belts....Cam timing marks off!

I finally got the JDM H22a and i just installed a new timing belt, balancer belt, water pump, and auto-tensioner. Everything went smooth except that I moved the exhaust cam a little bit on accident and I couldn't for the life of me get it back to where it was. The only way I can get it to go on was when the exhaust cam was a little to the right. Meaning that the TDC grooves don't line up. The intake one is lined up with the head, the flywheel is lined up correctly, but the exhaust TDC groove is about 1 tooth clockwise from the intake TDC groove. Kinda hard to explain, I hope you guys get what I'm saying here. I remember when I did a valve adjustment on the H23, it was like this also. Is it okay to do it this way? or am I going to **** up the timing. Should I take it off and do it over again? The arrows are still pointing up on the cam gears, and the cam lobes on piston #1 are pointing out. I got so frustrated with this thing cause I couldn't get them to line up again.

Sorry so long.........Thanks!

PS - On a side note, I also got the tranny apart and put the new release bearing on, but I stopped there. I'll finish putting on the new flywheel and clutch next, then check the valve clearance, transfer stuff over from the H23 and I'll be ready to drop it in
I'll have pics tomorrow!

Yes, for the love of all that is holy and good, make sure your cam gears line up at TDC.

I was one off also, I was able to adjust it by pulling the belt back from the gears and pulling the cam forward.
1. take off your valve cover. (probly is already)
2. lock your intake cam with the pin.
3. take your timing belt and work it towards the drivers side wheel until about a quarter of the belt is on the gear.
4. have a friend put a wrench on your cam and pull forward(counterclockwise) , you should be holding the belt on and make sure you watch it jump one tooth. We marked it to make sure it moved just one tooth.

Good luck

Tom
