just installed the H&Rs but...

Hey I finally ordered my springs but I ran into a problem. I decided to go with H&R Sports so that I would not have a huge drop. Anyway the springs I bought, new from the groupbuy, are “red I thought the sports were black and the race ones were red? Anyway I installed them and they really dropped the car a lot, I mean I have about a 1 finger gap all around so I think they may be the race ones and I even asked the guy at the shop if he was sure they were sport and not race and he assured me they were, since there is not indication on the H&R box itself…I installed the springs and the problem I am having is the rear tires hit the fenders when I hit a medium size bump, it hit the rear mud guards, and I thought of just taking the mud guard off but I don’t think that will fix it, I think the tire will still hit the fender lining. Can someone tell me if they have had the same problems or if the “reds are for sure the Race springs…maybe they gave me the wrong springs? BTW: my wheels and tires are 17in, front 215/45/17, rear 205/50/17

It's good to hear you finally got your car lowered. I'd help you if I could, in identifying the type of springs, but I don't have H&R's. Good luck.

I think your rear tires are way too big for a H&R drop, going with a 45 or 40 series tire should fix your problem. 40 for safe measure.

I had the same problem with my eibachs if I make a hard turn with 45 series tires. With 40's.... no problem.

As for the springs.... I think "red" springs are also for the sport series. My friends H& R sport spring for his Audi TT was red as well.

The red springsa are most certainly the sports. Both Brendon2k and myself have them. I think Ken is rightm, it's probably just the tire height.

so are you guys SURE the sports are "RED"? I also thought of the tire size, but I thought the sports are suppose to lower only 1.3 but I got like almost a 2in drop, maybe looks that way cuz the tire size, I just don't want to spend more $ on new tires and have it still hit....damn this sucks...anyway let me know what you guys think, I am almost sure I read here that the sports were "black" in color....

Well, according to the H&R website, the SPORTS springs are BLACK and the RACE springs are RED.

Maybe if you can get a part number from the springs and get in touch with H&R to see if they can tell you for certain.

Mine are red and they are the sports. I don't know what else I can say. Maybe they switched it around? I don't see why, it would cause confusing like this. I do have rear mudguards, I have 205/40/17 tires. Mine are red, and mine are the sport springs. Here's a couple pictures showing how much it's dropped:

(My car is on the right)

That's the best I have...maybe Brendon has some better pictures.

my sports are red as well. I have about a one finget gap all around and I would say it did only drop it about 1.3 inches. what is your tire size? if you are on 45 series w/17's or 40 series w/18's that is your prob. I have 215/35/18

I have H&R race springs and the model # on my box is 51879-88. Check the model number on your box and then check it with H&R's website.

read my post!!!
like 5 people have posted here that have h&r sports including myself. your problem is that your tires have a larger diameter than stock and that your rims dont have enough offset to tuck the wheel in the fender.

Hey it's your tires they are way to big. I have the neuspeed race which is a 2 1/4" and 18" rims and rubing at all. I have 215/35ZR18. It is tires though.
