Jumpy RPMs, Rough Idle, Check Engine Light, O2 Sensor?

Ok, my check engine light is on. When accelerating, my RPMs kinda jump (5 speed).... I thought at frist it was just a problem with the Tach but the car is kinda sluggish and hestitates a little, also when I downshift or goto neutral the RMPs drop and occasionally the car dies, sooo I am thinking its probably a Mass Air Sensor or an O2 Sensor? I know I can check it for the code, I'm jsut not real patient, just wanna know what it might be, thanks.

this is a long shot, but somthing close happen to me once. the dist. was dead/dying. everyone told me that was not it cause if the dist was dead the car would not run. it ran, rough, and with no power. hope this is not the case, but just a thought...and a long shot.

If you don't get a check engine light (CEL) than I doubt it's the O2 sensor. When my O2 sensor died the car would hesitate when cold like it was running on 3 cylinders. The when it warmed up the ECU would kick the sensor off-line and the CEL would light up. I would definitely check for CEL codes, that's a great starting point. You may want to check all the vacuum lines too.
