Jumping tach reading

Does anyone know what this problem could be and how to fix it? The engine itself revs smoothly and idles smoothly. However, when driving, the tach reading seems to sway off.

Thanks

ya I have the same problem........

I am thinking about getting an aftermarket tach and see if that does it otherwise I think it is either a shortage dash or it could be the ecu.....

if it is a shortage bind the dash then the aftermarket tach should work just fine

it does connect with the same wire but I think it connects at a different point so you could just possible disconnect it totally and just use the aftermarket one right??

d00d I have the same problem... mine is CONSTANTLY off... like at idle it will read like 1750 when the motor's at like 750... and cruising down the freeway at like 60 it will read like 4K or something and spike way up like I revved the **** outta' it. Sometimes I'm afraid it will even hit the speedo needle. haha... someone help us! lol

most likely it's the speedometer cluster, seems common, i had the problem too with my speedo needle, replaced cluster and all was well

you replaced the whole thing??? damn... how much did that cost? I'd rather spend 90$ for a cool multi-color tach and stick it right in front of the in-dash tach than replace the whole thing!

just go to a junkyard and get the speedo/tach meter..that should just run you like a hundred or less...and then just replace the electrical board in the back..that could be your problem there...and FYI the multi-color tach is nothing than just a piece of plastic that just lights up...it still doesnt fix your problem...

right but if it was just the cluster then wouldn't just a plain tach in dash tach work then???

and isn't the whole dash a real pain in the ass to take apart??....but if you disconnected it from the electrical board and just straight to the tach shouldn't it work?? (theorectically)

I may be wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time, but I just don't want to have to take my whole front dash apart let alone try and find an electrical board in a junk yard around here is trying to find a needle in a hay stack it seems.....
