jdm swap almost completed, but ran into some problems...

well, we finished the swap today. I put a jdm h22a into my 94 si, and I have a few questions. I know I'm suppose to use the search function but didn't get any results.

1. My idle is at 1400 and jumps down to 900 back and forth. Any way to fix this? And the idle is pretty rough too. Not too bad but a little more rough than my old motor.

2. My ABS light is on. It wasn't on with my old motor. I didn't mess with it either. Any ideas?

3. Vtec engaged alright. But I always thought it'd be a lot faster. It was wet and sprinkling outside when I first ran her, so that could be a reason it didn't feel that fast, but is it possible for vtec not to be engaging to its full potential? What would the problem be.

4. I replaced the power sterring and alternator belt. I bought some new ones from the dealer. Whenever I start the car she squeaks really bad. Squeaks even harder when I rev it up. What could be the problem.

well I think that's all the problems we ran into.
Any help would be great.

thanks in advance

Hey,

Well the idle sounds like maybe a vacuum leak. Go over all the hoses and check for a bad connection.

The ABS is easy enough to find out what is wrong. Jump the service check connector and read the flashes off the ABS light when you turn the key to run (don't start). Then post the code and we should be able to help.

As far as what VTEC feels like, it won't be like a shot of nitrous or anything, more like the engine getting a second wind.May be a problem though, best thing is to go drive a good VTEC and compare.

The belts squealing is easy to fix. You did not put enough tension on them to keep a good contact. Just adjust the tension. I like to use a good size prybar to move the component (PS pump) and add the tension and then tighten the bolts.

HTH

let me know what you pull with the ABS jumper! i did the same thing, i went from auto to 5spd, and used the JDM axles, and since then have the ABS light on. I was thinking speed sensor, but not sure. Good luck.

When i got the jdm h22 it doesnt feel a whole lot faster at first until you learn to drive it. 3rd gear is were it pulls over the h23. my idle was doing the same thing when the headlights were on. my mechanic swapped out the IAC valve i believe and lowered the idle and its fixed. i may be wrong about the idle valve thing but he didnt swap out something from the h23 and it fixed it. hope that helps. later

butt dyno's suck.

turn off your stereo and you should be able to hear vtec kick in.
unless you have the pedal floored all the way through the gear you won't notice a difference.

It's fixed today. I used the JDM axle on the left side and the h23a1 axle on the right and now the light is off. Anyone know whether this is safe or not?

if you cant find a vaccum leak it may be the fast idle thermo valve or the idle air control valve..

fast idle thermo valve:
take off you intake tube and cover a hole on the inside bottom of your throttle body while the car is running if it smooths out when you cover the hole then thats the problem replace it (and i have one brand new if you want to buy it)

Idle Air Control Valve:
remove it and see if it is gunked up clean it with carb cleaner and that may help

Vaccum Leak:
spray starter fluid along suspected lines while car idles if the car surges real high like someone tapped the throttle then thats where the leak was.. the start fluid gets through the leak and causes the rpm to jump (but doesnt always work )
