JDM P13 ECU with TCS

I am in the middle of doing a JDM H22a swap into 92 Prelude S. Everything is going just fine, and now I am doing the wiring for the ECU. However, I just noticed that there are 4 plugs on the JDM ECU. From what Todd and I can tell, this is a JDM 4Gen ECU with TCS. I can't figure out what else the other connector is for. So, my question is, has anyone here used this ECU? Will the lack of a TCS system cause problems? If the ECU doesn't care if the TCS is hooked up or not, then we're golden, but if the ECU is going to spit codes and go into limp mode without a TCS then there's a problem and we'll have to send the ECU back to HMO.

I should know by tomorrow as the engine should be in the car ready to run, but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has run into this problem.

mine has 4 plugs also because its a jdm 4ws ecu. the 4ws code which i believe is 36 or 35, one of those, comes on only when another cel comes on so no worries.

I never thought about the 4WS ECU. Interesting. I'll try it and see if it acts wierd or anything like that. Thanks for your help!

Hey guys, 4WS is a standalone system. On a 4WS prelude, it has its own ECU behind the rear driver side seat. I swapped in a H22A into my SI/4WS and there is no addition wires or plugs that aren't on a normal prelude. Do youhave any pics of this ECU?

I went through this when I did my swap. The ecu itself should say 4w on it, which would make you think that the 4th plug is related to 4ws, however as Riptide mentioned, the 4ws is a seperate standalone system. I basically came to the conclusion that the 4th plug was related to the TCS system and either the '4w' on the ecu stands for something else or the 4ws/tcs systems were generally found together on cars in jdm land.

Either way, by not using the 4th plug, the ecu will throw a code 36 however it's a soft code, which means it, by itself, will not make the dash light come on, but anytime you check the CEL codes 36 will be there. I've been told the ecu should work find with no problems, but I ended up sending mine back because I thought my particular ecu was screwy.

Good luck.

^^^

Nothing but the truth!

However....Josh, the problem with your ECU was my Spoon program. For some reason, the Spoon program was very specific about which ECU you have and my 2WS program didnt mate with his 4WS ECU very well I dont think.

isn't there any type of a reading that is output from the ECU on 4ws systems to the 4ws ecu ???

..... im pretty sure its standalone but I think i may have seen something in helms, ill check on it... but theres a sensor in the 2 back wheels for steering angle, the speed control sensor, and a steering column sensor that all work in conjunction with the 4WS system. so i guess that is all the information it needs... speed, and tire angle ...

I've never heard of TCS ... so do you guys have the CEL and just drive around with it or does it go off ever ?

Its a soft code, you only see it if you get another code.
