JDM Headlights: Interesting

It just occurred to me that in every set of JDM headlights the H4 harnesses have only two wires on them, rather than the 3 that you would think it does (High, Lo, Ground).

And actually the only wires hooked up to the H4 harness are the ground and the LOW BEAM. This leads me to believe the H1's were used as high beams, and only the low beam filament was used on the h4 for lows.

So true JDM-STYLE lights would be wired with high beams in the centre and lows on the outside. Thoughts?

I think you just got a set of harnesses with a wire pulled off. Maybe I'm wrong though

Do you have JDM headlights? I have seen many sets, and they all only have two wires and clips in them.

edit: ya charlie that's the way most people do it...but was the wire for the low beam (top) already on your JDM harness? (it's geocities you have to cut and paste in a new window)

Mine only came with 2 wires to, you have a good point.

Here is how mine are wired:

You have the high beam ran to the h1. The way satan suggests would have the h1 powered by the low beam light. I may try one of those set-ups. Right now I have the h1's unhooked.

i think that inner h1 bulb/beam are far to bright at night, to be wired for a low beam. unless their shooting directly at the ground. i had always thought the h4 acted as the high and the low, where the inner h1 was actually considered to be an 'auxiliary light'.

Well right now I also have the H1 unhooked..

Si4ws the only problem with your setup is that you're running both filaments in the H4 bulb at the same time when your highs are on. That's a lot of heat, I hope your bulbs don't explode!

Anyways as for the wiring the JDM harness only has a lead going to the low Beam lead on the H4, so I'm curious.

Euforik, I think you're right...the H1's have to be highs.

So correct me if i am wrong. When u plug the harness in you are using the high beam filament of the h4 not the low beam?

When who does? If the power wire is on the right side when looking from the back, it's a high beam. The low beam power lead goes up top

Those are just generic ebay projector lights i think that they look good. I had the chrome ones for a while but the leaked bad so i got real jdms. IMO they are not bright at all and they are very dim but looks wise i like the blacks better

okay...i have mine hooked up using both elements in the H4 bulbs...high beam low beam, the inner H1 i have hooked up to a foglight switch using a relay...i use the inner lights during the day as driving lights...at night, the high beams on the H4s arent very bright at all, but the H1s are insanely bright, im talking about i can see everything for like 100yards...theres no way you could use the H1s at night for a low beam, unless like euforik said u aim them straight at the ground...in my research i found the JDM ludes running high beam low beam..and the inner lights was considered a driving light or daytime running..peace
