JDM headlight question

Hi, for some reason my passenger headlight keeps going out. So recently i ordered some superwhites H4's and i went to install the bulb in that socket and i was surprised to see that the socket was melted. It still works but I have to push the bulb into it every other time i drive because of the distortion of the socket. I'm not sure what could have caused this? Could i replace it with any other socket or do i need a special one. I think every time my headlight is on it melts the plastic more because its letting off a smell. and that side it hotter than the other. I'm really not sure why it would get that hot. If i'm not being clear im talking about the black plug end in which the low beam bulb would plug into to. Another problem is I ordered replacement high beam bulbs and they only have one prong. However the H1 has two prongs right? I appreciate the help....

ur high beams are indeed h1's ........is one light brighter than the other....u may have had a high wattage bulb in there causing the housing to melt...and i dunno about replacing a socket

Hmmm, well something doesn't make sense because my high beam bubls are have 2 prongs coming out? Both sides are the same wattage, but something defaintly blew up to make that kind of damage.

For your low beam H4's, harness melting happens alot...cuz the bulb ur using has a wattage thats higher than stock rating....you should avoid the high wattage bulbs unless u wanna keep on changing out ur harnesses...they make higher wattage harnesses too, if u wanna go that way, but unfortunately, the best way to light up the road is with some real HID's...

O yea, i dunno how u wired your lights, but maybe u wired the lows to the highs?? So instead of running the low beam filaments, ur running ur high beam filaments with ur low beam wires???

I'm having the same problem but on the drivers side. I know this post is some what old, but was there any solution to the problem. My harness is melting to the point where I couldn't disconnect the bulb from the harness. The way I wired my harness was very simple, the harnesses that were sent to me from passwordjdm.com, had wires that were the same color as the stock wires, so that was pretty much self explanatory, solder the two like colors.
At first I wasn't having this problem.. but then about a month with the JDM's... the light start going out... some times it even seemed like it got brighter.. almost like it switch itself over to the high-beam inside the H4. Now it just doesn't turn on (when I turn on the low beams), so I have to pop my hood and press on the back of the harness to the bulb, then they turn on... but some times they turn back off. But when the low beam is working.... it does seem alil bright than the passenger side low beam. the H4's that I buy have 3 prongs... 2 are parallel and the 3rd one (the one in the outer middle) is perpendicular to the two other ones. I think the outer middle one is ground and the other 2 are positives .. one for the low and one for the high.
If anyone has a solution to this prob... please let us know. Thanks.

i don't know if the high are h1, cause yes mine are two prong. and using the h4 harness, i might but h1 in japan might be different. i might make my own harness.

i bought new harness for my JDM, h4, cause the connecter i got are way too small for my taste, and i am pretty good at soldiering wires, but i am goin to make a harness instead.

h1 is the right bulb. the high beams are installed kinda like foglights. once you get in there you will see what i am talking about. the light connector has 2 prongs, but the actual bulb itself has 1. the other wire grounds the area around the bulb, much like a fog light. according to how i wired my h4 bulbs (looking down at the bulb from in front of the car) the right vertical wire is ground, the middle horizontal wire is low beam filament, the left vertical wire is high beam filament. i have had no problem out of my lights (although i haven't used them much) the burning headlight socket sounds like too high wattage bulbs to me. buy a 55/60w (or close to that area) bulb and see if it still does it. also you can pick up a "universal" head light plug from Advance or Autozone that fits the h4 perfectly. it runs about 3 bucks.

for those of you running jdm headlights and just spliced the harness into your stock headwires, here is a solution. www.SUVLIGHTS.COM they make conversion harnesses to handle hhigher wattage bulbs and they won't melt. They will make any conversion harness you need. For JDM headlights you need 9005,9006 --> H1,H4, I think mine cost around $65. Good Quality Stuff. Maybe we could get a groupbuy going....
