JDM h22a Legality

Okay, so my Dad is arguing with me about the legality of a JDM swap. I remember reading somewhere that if you swap the intake manifold from the USDM motor, everything is legal. Can someone clarify this and any other details?

They're legal as long as they have all the emission control components that the USDM motors have, and the engine is the same year or newer than the year of your chassis. And you need all the papers for the purchase of the engine.

Uhm, JDM H22's have EGR's just like USDM H22's. But even if they didn't all you would need to do it stick on a USDM manifold and it would be fine, but that's a mute point because they have EGR's.

I have no experience with this but in my opinion, even in cali, I think it would be easy to get away with. Every smog place I went to never ever looked to match the vins or do a full visual. These people see tons of different engines all day, I doubt they would notice a difference between a 23 or a 22.

As long as your car is in passing condtion I think you should be fine. If not slip a $50

I live in California and as we know we have the toughest emission standards around. I have JDM h22 installed in my car. I brought it to 2 smog stations neither of them knew I did an engine swap. I did put my stock intake back though just incase. I have all the smog equipment hooked up as well. I passed but only thing was one of my numbers was really high. I think it's because I was running really rich. I'll find out soon thought cause I have to smog my car this year.
