jdm h22a expertise needed

i did a search and found a bunch of info on swapping the distributors during the h22a swap. however, maybe its just me, but it seems like people are giving different instructions on how and why to do this.

currently i'm using the dist. that came with my jdm motor but it idles REAL low and it barely stays alive. The rpms jump up and down and after awhile just finally dies.

Could this be because i didnt swap in my h23 dist.

(oh yea, my abs light is also on....lol)

the main difference between the JDM and USDM ignition is the fact that the USDM one uses an external coil, but the JDM one does not.

i realize that but could this be the reason my car idles so f'ed up? i was thinkin about just throwing in my h23a dist so i could advance timing if need be...but how would i go about doing this. what wires would i have to run, etc...

who is to say you cant advance the timing on your jdm distributor? whether or not the distributor is external or internal coil makes no difference at all. both versions have 3 bolts that loosen and the whole thing twists clockwise (retard) or counter-clockwise (advance). just simply replace the cap and rotor if youre worried about the distributor. the distributor is not your problem unless its the cap/rotor.

did you use the jdm engine harness?? or did you use your h23 one, you shouldve used the h23 one, and the dist you already had would wire up perfectly..peace

You have your timing too far retarded ... you'll need to pick up a timing gun, remove the rubber plug in your tranny, start the car and let it warm up, hook up the timing light and then set your timing from there, car will idle a lot better once you have it set to spec.
