JDM H22A Distributor and ECU Question

Hey all. I'm a proud 5th gen owner but I'm writing this post for my buddy who has a 93 SI with a JDM H22A in it. I believe his distributor is shot because his car won't start and when I put an ignition wire hooked up to a plug in the cap and cranked the engine there was no spark. Took his wire and plug and hooked it up to my cap and it sparked fine. He'd been having misfires for a little while now and I ran a compression test with these results from 1 to 4 (225, 225, 215, 215). Compression seems fine. His distributor has an internal coil so we were thinking about doing a conversion to an external coil like on my 5th gen. He also has an ECU from a H23 automatic so he's been keeping the engine no higher then 4k RPM. I want to fix the distributor problem and find the proper ECU for his motor. My question is should we do the conversion to an external coil or look for an internal JDM distributor. If so where is a good place to get the parts for a good price and a good diagram for the rewire? Also, where would be a good place to get the proper ECU module for his car? He just forked out a lot of money for new brake pads, rotors, and two calipers so he's trying to spend as little as possible but do the job right. The motor came from an OBD1 car so I don't believe an OBD2 conversion is necessary. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

1. switch to external dist, easier to find parts. they should have done it whenever they did the swap since the h23 has all perfectly working parts.

if not, you can still buy internal distributors from king motorsports.

2. just buy a p28/72 with a h22 map on it, easier to find or find a jdm p13.

3. spending money on brakes is good, but seriously, thats about 400 bux max. it costs less to fix all of the above so he shouldn't have to worry.

4. search and you will find lots of writeups on jdm swaps. i think i remember even seeing a dedicted thread on how to wire up the external distributor from the h23

5. learn to write with paragraphs
