We jumped the service plug to check the CEL to see if any codes were being displayed.
It displayed a Code 22 which is the Vtec Oil Pressure Switch. However, Vtec still engages at 5100rpm. Any ideas to what this could be? It seems to me that Vtec isn't engaging as strongly as it should. Could this be the reason?
VTEC should still engage if the oil pressure switch is a problem. It will just throw the code telling you the switch is having a problem. Make sure the switch is connected properly and grounded. There are directions in the Helms on how to troubleshoot the switch.
Do you think it could possibly be a dirty filter? We did the swap into a 93 Si...therefore, it could be faulty wiring. I was just curious if it would be worth the trouble to remove the switch and check to see if it was dirty/clogged.
I would first make sure the wires are hooked up right. You can't troubleshoot with the Helm's unless the wires are set-up right. As far as the filter, it is possible.
I just took off the whole oil pressure sending unit and the filter looks almost brand new.
As for the wiring. Could be a bit tricky since this is a JDM swap into a 93 Si. I cut the plug off of the JDM wiring harness with the light blue and black wire and used it. The green/yellow wire is the vtec solenoid which is ran to the passenger side strut tower. The light blue wire is ran up to the wiring harness next to the fuse box. (I just looked for a light blue wire coming into the engine bay from the ecu compartment but no wire coming out into the engine bay and wired it to that.) The black wire is grounded somewhere on the engine near the oil pressure unit.
These are the only wires I know of. The vtec IS working. Otherwise I'm not sure what else to check except the soldering of the wires?
Any other ideas? Could the wires be switched on the plug?
Make sure that you didn't pick up the tach signal wire. It is located on the top of the passenger strut tower as well. The Lt. Blue wire you are to hook into is IN a harness plug. It will go into the firewall side of the plug but nothing will come out the other side of the plug. It is in a plug with about 10 other wires as well.
Other than that the switch might just be toast. I am not sure on how to test it. Check the helms.
Next time you speak try using English and common sense.
To those who actually know something about it: Yes I picked up the blue wire from the IN side of the harness. As for the tach wire you refer to...I'm not sure what you mean. If vtec is working at all, which it is, then I found the right wire for the vtec solenoid. I'm just have problems with the oil pressure sender.

It was in english and all I was saying is vtec is a all or nothing feature. It was not adressing how to fix your problem but stating either it works and kicks in or it doesn't work.

There have been times where Vtec kicked in alot harder than other times in my car
