Well, I like to think my questions are new because I SEARCHED for them and didn't see anyone else asking these questions... here goes...
I wanna drop a H22a in my 93 Prelude Si, and the following questions came up...
1) What parts from my Si will be required in the h22 engine/tranny package? Will the h22 come with a clutch, alternator, flywheel?
2) Assuming all the Proper tools are available, are there any modifications that need to be done with the chassis or any kits? Or does the bad boy just drop in no questions asked?
2b) Has anyone had apparent problems that they wouldn't mind sharing with me when they dropped their h22 in?
3) Me being a novice to engine modifications (i'm a stereo/computer guy ;-) ... since I"m gonna have an engine sitting out in the open, what would be good upgrades to do while I got it out? clutch? lightened flywheel? what else is a cost-effective upgrade?
4) Lastly, I noticed the headers for the Si and the VTEC are different part numbers, what abou tthe exhaust, is that going to not match up? Do I need to have the exhaust redone?
Thanks again for all your help guys... You guyz 0wn.
1)If you get the motor with tranny, it should have everything you need. Try to get as much as you can from the H22, especially the ECU.
2)It should drop right in
2b) haven't done it.
3)You wwill need the header from the VTEC, and I think you can use the Si exhaust, but you may need to take it to a muffler shop to make it fit. It should fit, though.
If you can, swap the clutch, flywheel, cam gears, pulleys, and headers to save yourself a headache.
4) You wwill need the header from the VTEC, and I think you can use the Si exhaust, but you may need to take it to a muffler shop to make it fit. It should fit, though.
Hope this makes sense, I'm typing quick at work.

2b) no modification of the frames or any other metal is needed
3)You wwill need the header from the VTEC, and I think you can use the Si exhaust, but you may need to take it to a muffler shop to make it fit. If you can, swap the clutch, flywheel, cam gears, pulleys, and headers to save yourself a headache....agreed

My JDM motor came complete, Engine, tranny, and ECU, but had some minor damage from shipping.
From my Si I used: A/c compressor, p/s pump, alternator, distrubitor, coil, starter, motor mounts, fuel rail, throttle body, front coolant nipple and wiring harness.
The items in bold are thing you will need to switch over.

Its pretty much drops right in, minus running the 2 extra VTEC wires in from the ecu.

None so far :crossfingers:

You should replace all the maintenance items. ie: belts, hoses, plug wires, etc etc. But anything like a clutch or lsd will be eaiser to get to when the engine is sitting on the ground.

This is the fun part.
My engine did not come with a downpipe, only the exhause manifold upper part. I had to source a downpipe from a local junkyard.
The VTEC down will not bolt to the Si catalytic converter.
You will need to do one of the following:
A) Get a VTEC header(or just a downpipe), a VTEC catalytic converter and a VTEC catback exhaust system.
B) Get a VTEC downpipe(or header) and cut the flange where is bolts to the cat, off. Now, weld the Si downpipe flange to the VTEC header so you can use your VTEC header with your Si exhaust system.
I chose B, though I am trying to find a VTEC cat so I can switch out my entire exhaust system for the bigger VTEC system.
Good Luck, if you have any questions, AIM me @ AbsolutLaptop or email @ jhayner2@pacbell.net as I just did this swap about 3 months ago.
most all those questions were touched on previously.
im curious about the 92 si with vtec wires. do you already have the swap done? i have a 93 and swapped back in 99. i have no vtec wires. the ecm harnesses weren't even pinned for d6 a4? either way...it may be a 92/93 thing.
to reiterate from previous posts, all the extra parts you inquired about ie. alternator, clutch, etc are considered give away parts with almost all shops. meaning that they MIGHT be included, but if they are broken, it is not covered under the startup warranty...IF there is a warranty.
sometimes its better to buy the more expensive motor over the cheaper ones. do some serious research, dont just impulse buy.

The Si harness had VTEC wires because Si/VTEC was an option in the US.
The Si/4WS did not have the extra wires because Si/4WS/VTEC was not a USDM option.
At least, thats what I have concluded, all the straight Si's seem to have the extra wires, but non of the 4WS ludes did.
