jdm for 4th gen.

hey guyz-
I'm seriously considering getting a JDM motor & tranny for my '94 si. Has anyone done this? I'm pretty handy w/a wrench, but I don't think I've got the garage space to do it at the moment. The other thing that really SUCKS is that I want to convert my auto. tranny to manual. If anyone has some insight or advice, please let me know... much appreciated

Hey,
When doing a motor swap there are a lot of thing you need to do if you get a used motor. Timing belt, balancer belt, oil pump, water pump, spark plugs, and wires. If you are getting a JDM one there is even more...the clutch will most definatly be bad in the JDM tranny, the distributor cap will be broken, they will send you only half the exhuast manifold, and you will have some broken sensors. Then there are other things that COULD be wrong like a bad vtec solenoid, and other little stuff. I swapped in a JDM motor this summer, I am happy, but make sure you take into account the other stuff you will have to pay for. The above stuff equals about 400 in honda parts, plus headers, and clutch, and whatever sensors are broken.
If you have any questions feel free to email me or, instant message me
Josh

thanks!

ludetec-
thanks, you've given me quite a bit to think about. I've got about 123k on my h23a right now, but I'd like to get some more power than the bolt-ons I've allready added. I don't know how feasible putting more stuff on this block would be - or if it would be more cost effective just to get a new motor. Ulitimately, I'd like to go to the JDM 2.2 and tranny to get both a manual trans. and a new powerplant. Thanks for the heads up though!

Hey,
I defintly encourage the swap!! I just wanted to let you know of the hidden costs that no one thinks about. I think that doin a motor swap would be the only way to get the power you are looking for without FI. You learn a LOT when you do a swap. I think it would be a good project to do what you wanna do
My personal experiance was a bad one, but many people have had good ones. I had a bad oil pump after I put my motor in, and I hadn't replaced it when I did the swap due to the fact that I din't have the money. Now I am goin back and had to take the motor out again, and get new rings, bearings, pump, pan, and pick up. So what I told you is based on my experiance
