I know first hand that there isn't a "JDM" H23A like what you are thinking of.

The Prelude Si in Japan had the DOHC Non-VTEC F22B in it. 2.2L 160hp @ 6000, 148 ft/lb tq @5500. Smaller, slightly less grunt.

NOT the H series.

I think we have already covered that above. The valve cover is definitley the USDM H23 valve cover, not the one posted above. Plus, the JDM H23 VTEC would cost about $4000 to get into a Prelude. . .I dont think he's got that cash to blow on an engine.

After reading everything I say that you have made a VERY good decision not buying this car. I personally wouldn't believe anything the guy said. People will tell you anything to sell you a car, then once they have your money and your engine goes out, darn it, wouldn't you just know it? "The number you have dialed is no longer in service."

First if someone called the motor a "j-spec" I would think they are an idiot and are lying. From my experience smart people call it a "JDM motor".
