IWL Issues...

New to the forum and about to take the car to the dealer but wanted to throw this particular concern out there and wondering if anyone has run across this. Vehicle is 96 Prelude.

Instrument warning light comes on and transmission drive 3 green light flashes. Both malfunctions appeared at exactly the same time and wondering what would cause that? IWL indicates issue with engine but transmission D3 light flashes indicating transmission issue.

Transmission fluid level is fine. I tried clearing the IWL by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for over 5 mins. Reconnected the battery, started the engine and no fault along with no flashing D3 light. Drove around the block and both issues reappeared after only two blocks.

Wondering what would tie both of these malfunctions together?? I have not jumpered the blue wire that is supposed to be behind the radio to isolate the fault.

Does the radio need to be removed to get to this wire?? Any thoughts on what could be wrong??

Thanks, in advance, for any inputs...

For anyone to really help you out you should check the codes. Just look behind the center console on the driver side for the blue plug, but keep in mind your car is obdII so make sure you get the right code numbers.

Think I found the blue plug...jumpered it and with key in ACC, IWL flashes 7 times, stops and flashes 7 times...There is no long and short flashes; seems like 7 long flashes....I take it that is code 7. What is code 7 for obdII please?

ALSO, my red SRS light is flashing and a little hesitant to start the engine because I do not want to blow the airbags. Is the flashing SRS light normal when jumpering the connector??

if your srs light is flashing that means its throwing a code so count those too. If its seven long flashes its a 70. long flashes are the second digit the short ones are the first digit.

Code 70 is automatic transmission control malfunction. Where do I start troubleshooting?? Transmission is not doing anything out of the ordinary. What feeds the ecm, from the transmission, with this fault? I am leaning towards an electronic issue instead of a mechanical transmission issue feeding the fault.

If your transmission doesnt feel any different I would agree that its electrical. I THINK that the TCU is actually in the ECU but I cant garuntee that since I dont have one but you could try searching around and reading up on others who have had that code with no obvious signs of problems.
