Its really cold, heater not working, car overheats..

Ok

I have a H23 and it has been parked for the weekend and after a few cold days, especially last night, I started my car before i left for work. I started it and it started to do the notorious rev from 1000k to 3000k over and over until It his the second mark on the water temp on the dash.

But the ****ty thing was my heater was nothing but ice cold, so I am like **** I think heater core is fuk'd or something?

But then I start to think about the fact that maybe the water in car froze over night.

I got to work and all I heard was the overflow of the radiator puking any water I had out. same when I got home tonight and still no heat

Its about 20 degrees out....

Any ideas

Take the car put it in a heated garage for a few hours to defrost. Change your thermostat and drain all your coolant and fill with 50/50 mix and drain again and refill and report back.

ok/

Sounds like your coolant/anti-freeze is low.

When was the last time you changed your water pump? It is very likely it failed.

I am like 95% sure it is your water pump. When it fails the biggest tell is the no heat from the heater when the car is warmed up, and the fast overheating, while the heater is on.

I was told by my teacher that the first thing to check when your heater is malfunctioning should be the heater core. I guess he was wrong?

I have added 50/50 and the issue is fixed, but sik96 is right because I have heard the water pump makin some noise lately so I have just lucked out that it is ok for now.

not at all, it's an easier thing to check than anything else, if it's okay, than yeah, water pump, coolant flush etc.
