Interesting thing about H22A swaps and insurance

Hey,

In my neverending quest to research my JDM swap I thought about what my insurance company would say about it. Well I just got off the phone with them and it turns out that it will not effect my insurance at all!!

An interesting side note, when I bought my car I looked at the premiums for both an Si and a VTEC and, as expected, the VTEC cost more to insure. So it appears that I have found a way to do an end run around that little detail. Go buy an Si or even an S and do a JDM swap with the money you saved. Then you have the premium rates for a slower car but with a VTEC engine

Just some info I found

Hahahaha... NICE! I always wondered about this, but wouldn't really tell the insurance company anyway. This is another reason to aftermarket turbocharge/supercharge your car... they don't need to know about it, even if you wreck.

Yeah I know

I had a claims adjuster to look at the car when my wife backed into it. Neway I was a little worried about the jdm vtec being in there but she had no freakin clue. She just read the VIN # and cut me a check that was it. I have been payin insurance for a S model prelude for a year with the swap. Thats gotta be a big difference even from a Si but vtec as well. I love the whole idea.

yeah compensation for the engine would be my biggest concern about not disclosing that its a different engine, as much as saving money rules.

Yes that is my concern too. I would guess hope you don't cause the accident and sue the person for what is not covered. There is no way if my car is totaled I will get it all back I'm sure, without purchasing some $$$ custom car insurance which is mainly for classic cars and trailer queens.

I was told the lower mileage and higher hp motor would increase value, but of course probably not even half what I spent. Best thing is save your old motor, that way you take the motor out and swap the old one back in.

Fellas there is no gettin around it. Putting dough into our cars is like p!ss!n it down the drain. There is now good way to get all your money+time+sweat+tears back out of it. We do it because we enjoy it and thats it. (I have this argument with my wife all the time). She is mostly right but I don't care. I love my lude and I love playin with it. But it would suck if some turd drills me and I don't get a h22 back, I would get the f22a. Oh well Peace
Matt

I'm glad somebody pointed this fact out. You'll NEVER get out what you put into your car, unless the buyer is rich and dumb. You lose money as soon as you drive a new car off the lot... it's a lose lose situation, so drive the sh!t outta your car, and just enjoy life a lil'. Insurance is just for a peace of mind, unless you wreck, so enjoy that peace of mind while you have it.

state farm is a bunch of tight asses, when my car got vandalised, the appraiser came out to my house and only gave me an estimate of 3100 when the body shop said 4100......they are suppose to be pulling all dings and repainting btw.

That's why you take it to a body shop approved by state farm, the shop appraises it, you get everything fixed and the body shop makes out like bandits.

The state farm appraiser way sucks, don't do it.

I called my insurance a while ago and asked about a motor swap and they said "as long as there are no big chrome pipes sticking out of the hood your insurance will not go up". I was like damn no non funtional hood scoop
