Just installed my CAI, and was wondering what the vaccuum hose that went into the stock intake tube was for. There wasn't a spot for it on the new intake, so I just plugged it with a screw. Will this negatively affect anything?
I also plugged the hose that went to the airbox in the wheel well. Was that the correct thing to do?
That hose is for the "Starting air valve". I am not sure what it does and my intake came without a nipple for it as well. I wanted to keep it as stock as possible so I made one out of a piece of brass tube that I inserted into the rubber coupler between the intake and the TB. I used some silicone to seal it up. AEM sugests to just plug the hose. You can do it either way. I am not sure what it does when you leave it off though, depends on what a Starting air valve is.
i got an intake question for u guys...why is it some cars make that air sucking sound with their intake while the car is in park? I have an AEM CAI, but I've never heard that sound in my car...i kinda like that sound

because some cars just suck. I don't know, mine makes the noise with my Akitmoto air intake.

I can hear mine suck air if I blip the throttle in neutral or when I am above 4500rpm and WOT.
OK some of you guys are talking about two different hoses. One is goes all the way down to where the stock intake resonator is...that one should just be cut...not necessarily plugged...mine isn't. The other hose is closer to the fuel injector. The aftermarket intake you have should have a little hole in that neighbothood....it should also come with a hollow plasic peice that goes into the tube and fits into the hole in the intake with a rubber gromet....if this confuses you i can take pics. This allows it to get filtered air and it definitely should NOT be pluged. I originally had it plugged and my car did rev on its own. Once a I hooked it the right way the problem was corrected. Just remember the bottom hose you dont have to worry about and the top hose must have air flowing to and through it for the car to function properly.
Oh and by the way is it normal for an intake to be as loud as or in some cases louder than an exhaust....cause mine is loud as shiz! (at full throttle of course)

heh....I wish my car sucked
Wide Mouth Lude: ur right...my cai intake is louder than my friend's 5th gen exhaust...or so it sounds...well that is until he takes off his silencer...
My intake doesn't have a place to put that top hose. It has one connector on it, which connects to the PCV valve. (I think)
It doesn't have a smaller one for the vacuum hose, though. I unplugged it and it doesn't rev on its own, but I'm wondering if it will kill my milage or have any other negative effects.
The intake will have negative effects. You will WOT more often to hear the killer sound. I had my vacuum line plugged and unplugged and I didn't notice a difference in MPG.
