intake gets louder but exhaust dont and car dont pull

i have a 94 prelude si 2.3 my car after like 3000rpm if i get on the throttle hard i hear the intake sucking more and more but the exhaust donnt get louder and the cars doesnt pull any harder. someone told me to take off the vacum on the flappers in the intake manifold cause it will give me more power so i did and thats what happened so i hooked it back up and its still doing it. does anyone know what cold be the problem and it dont do it when i first start it up and drive it. its just starts after a lil bit. any suggestions?

You did not indicate that the check engine light was on so that eliminates a lot of potential basic problems.

The stock intake, stock intake runners and stock exhaust on your car were precisely tuned by Honda to the input and output air pulses running into and out of your engine. How these pulses occur is mainly determined by the relationship between the cam and the piston movements . In an advanced engine like yours modifying any of these components with out an understanding how that work together usually results in an engine that could be referred to as a paper tiger thats all bark and no bite.Modifying your intake runner like you described will lower the pitch of the sound of your engine at mid rpms but will do nothing but fool your ears into thinking your engine is achieving a boost in mid rpm power, when in fact, your power output may be in reality probably been reduced. If your engine is completely stock, then a mechanic may be able to find a problem if one exist. If your problem is due to some aftermarket component detuning the engine, then selective removal of each aftermarket part to find out which one is mucking things up would be in order. Many aftermarket parts sacrifice mid rpm torque for a little more top end power. With a 4cyl engine on your car trying to move a 2900lb car , you can not afford to lose any mid rpm torque.

Note:When the outdoor temperature goes way up like toward a 100 degrees, it not unusual for a small engine to make a lot more noise and less power because the air its sucking in is less dense.
