unless your car is worth less than your premiums, insure it especially if it's hooked up.
No that.....every now and then, I wonder why I pay insurance on a car when nothing happens. I guess really I am trying to cut or save cost of insurance.

yeah, but that's how insurance works. you pay all this money to hope you'll never need it, it's how the civilized world works. i bet people waste more money in health insurance and home insurance only to never use it. the key is, what if you did need it, you'd be SOL. basically be happy you haven't needed to make a insurance claim for your car, cause there are tons of people getting stuff stolen and getting into accidents that you read about here all the time. you could however lessen your coverage to save some money, like just keep liability or lower liability, and raise your comprehensive/collision deductibles to like $500.

seriously, keep that full coverage. I never had to claim anything i was starting to think that it was stupid to pay that money. Luckily i didnt go through with it because after my car was stolen, i considered myself very lucky. i know the amount i will pay for insurance will be probably add up more than the amount you will have to claim in the long run. but chances are, something will happen when you cant afford it. that is unless you can manage to save enough to not worry, and even then youd be tempted to spend it on a turbo or something and thats when you'll end up needing the money

i only have liability on my car, just cuz its expensive to insure at my age. i just pray that if another car ever hits me, that its a really expensive car w/ a nice insurance plan.
as for the car being stolen, i take my measures against that happening, unless they use a tow truck, heh

oh i know its expensive, i used to pay over 3700 a year to insure the lude, with good student discount and no points on my license. Thank god im finallly 22 and the rates have made their way down to 700 every 6 months.
as far as having your car stolen, it will happen in the nicest neiborhoods and probably with you less than 20 feet away. IT doesnt matter, it can happen to anyone no matter what you do to try to avoid it
its just a risk you weigh out along with others when you decided whether or not you'll pay for the added coverage, im just saying im glad i chose to keep the full coverage

You need to check with the insurance co. and see how much they would give you if the car was stolen and how much you would save by cutting collision and comprehensive. For instance, if they would give you $6000 for your car totalled and you would save $2000/year in premiums, if you went at least 3 years without having your car stolen or totaling it with you at fault, you are going to come out way ahead. Generally, when a car is 8-10 years old, it starts to make sense to cut the extra stuff. Until then use the highest deductible you can afford like $500 or even $1000 and you can save some money that way. Just make sure if you get in an accident it isn't your fault.
