im wonderin what i would probably pay for insurance for an 96 vtec. Would there be much of a difference if i got an Si?
some feedback would be appreciated
I go through USAA (b/c I'm in the military), and here are my numbers:
165/mo - full coverage
1996 Prelude Si
California
The reason mine's a bit high is that I wrecked about 7-8 months ago, and I'm not yet 25. I can't wait 'til I get that discount for being 25+...
Ahhhhh, to be young, wreckless, and dumb,
Slick96

That's cool! You have ambitions, being only 16 and going straight for the VTEC. I'm 23, and I pay 165 after an expensive (5,000 dollar) wreck in which I was at fault. It's not too bad, but it could be better. Your only problem will be your age--insurance companies will see that you're a very new driver, and will be a liability. They'll also see the fact that the car has the VTEC engine. Good luck, and make sure to shop around to get the best quote. Mention that you have good grades, if you're a good student, that the car has an alarm, if it has one, etc...

I'm with USAA, and for just the My 94 Vtec, I pay 42 a month for full coverage. That also includes much higher coverage for liability, and medical coverage. I have a perfect driving record, and 2 accidents, (neither were my fault). When I was 16 I had a an old 66 Mustang, and mt insurace was about 190 a month. I would imagine that as a youngster you would pay well over 200 a month. Possibly more than the car payment itself.
I have a 96 vtec and I am 21 years old, Geico told me because of a seatbelt ticket and one suspension(for not paying a ticket on time) that I would be paying 264 a month for full coverage and a 500 dollar deductible. **** that!!!!
I pay 440 a month for full coverage, I'm 19. I have 100/300 bodily injury, and I also have 21 points on my license ... but it used to be 200 (which was nice...) before all of those tickets and such... ah well, I've learned my lesson and I keep it on the track now...

it all depends on where you live, and what coverages you want on the car...many many many variables fall into place when asking a queation like this...i know cause i work for allstate insurance
I'm 18 now, got in a wreck last year. GEICO wanted $6500 a year to keep me around. . .so now my whole family is with Progressive for less than half of that. When I was prelude shopping (17 years old), the difference between my S and an Si was several hundred a year.
DAMN!
I'm 29 and pay $190 a month ($2187 over the year) on a 93 VTEC.
Okay, I have had a 'colorful' history, Golf got stolen, b*tch in a Fiat wrote the Audi Coupe off 50/50, 5 points on license, but I think it's a little crazy that a 16 yr old could get a VTEC as a first car.
Is that safe??? - No offence intended
Ah what the f*ck, if you can good luck!
(YES - I am jealous - my first car was a 1 ltr VW POLO!)
Also, in the UK it can be difficult to insure the JDM's like mine some companies won't deal with you and those that do make you pay big $
prelude1215... what kind of cars do ur family own? my parents got me insured in one of their cars (94 accord). being 4 door and not a "sports car" it dropped costs like crazy. i am allowed under their plan to drive any car in the family, but the insurance company thinks my every day driver is the accord. i say get ur rents to feel out the company and see what they can get away with.
20 year old male, 0 tickets in 4 years of driving, good student discount, full coverage on a 92 Si with about 15,000 miles a year. $1000 deductable through AAA...I pay about 110 a month.
Oh yeah, that includes an accident that happened about 4 months ago, $6000 worth of damage to my car, but I was not at fault, so it didn't make any difference, so no at fault accidents.
