It's not difficult. I did the swap in my car and it only took an hour or two. You've gotta take out the entire back seat (except the part that flips down, you can just flip it down to get to the screws). You definitely have to take out the e-brake part of the console, the '92 console is just one piece that starts just behind the gearshift and ends at the backseats. I found it was helpful to take the piece surrounding the radio and gearshift off also, helped to get the rest situated right. I did NOT need to take out the front seats, I really don't think it would have helped all that much.
As far as the lock goes, I grabbed the key out of the same car I got the console from and now carry 2 car keys. I would have thought finding a car key in a junkyard to be a needle in a haystack, but it was right there in the door
If you need anymore help, email me,
mciampag@vt.edu. I did that swap just a month or so ago so it's real fresh in my memory.
edit: Where are you getting it from, junkyard, friend, ebay? It should be just one real long piece.
red92s: What do you mean by 'metal bracket'? The console I got popped right in, no metal bracket to speak of.
