Installing built H23

The engine is finished and ready for pick up. This is what I have had done: crank balanced and polished, rods balanced, Block sleeved and bored 1 mm over, custom pop up pistons forged (JG)then balanced. Compression will be unknown due to the head volumes are not known as of yet. The fly wheel will be resurfaced. It is going to be picked up Monday and that is when I start taking my old engine out and doing the swap.
I already have a Gude Package (head shaved .009) on now with I/H and cam gears. Head is going to be checked out by the machine shop when the engine is pulled. I will paint the new block before putting it in. I also have a centerforce dual friction kevlar/ceramic clutch and pressure plate that I am putting in while the engine is out.
The reason I am posting this is people have been wondering what a H23 will do N/A. Will dyno to dial in cam gears towards end of may.
I am already at 168 at the wheels as it is. Any guesses?

Re: Installing built H23

Can you please list the mods you had at the time of your 168whp dyno run? Also when you say you had the gude headpackage, what does that consist of? Is the gude head ported and polished? Does it have upgraded cams, or just stock cams?

Im just considering building my h23, so Im not sure.

Gude head package is a bored out throttle body, ported intake, valve job, ported and polished head and regrind cams. Gude.com will have most of the stuff listed. Gude sucks as far as business goes, do a search o them. It took me 10 months to get my core charge back and it was 50.00 short. Pissed me off but I felt lucky to get back what I got. 1375.00

Other mods are just STR cam gears, Weapons R intake and a DC 4-1 ceramic header.

I found it was cheaper to rebuild a short block than buy one from honda. 2700.00 4133.00

See my web site. It has pictures of what I have now with Dyno sheet.

Armandillo. So at the time of your dyno of 168whp, you had a weapon R intake, a DC header, the gude package, and STR Cam Gears?

So now what did you add since then, just the block work?

Since then I have been saving to do the block work which I will pick up tomorrow. Sorry about the large files, when I add the other stuff it will be smaller.

Probably a typo. I have never heard of a DC 4-1 header for a prelude, and i dont think one exists.

The old short block is out. New short block is painted and some misc stuff bolted back on. Centerforce clutch, transmission bolted back on and motor mount inserts are done. I have put the short block and tranny back in and connected the 1/2 shafts on. I am now waiting for the head.
This is another story. Apparently the cams are opening and the spring retainers are beating the Sh*t out of my valve seals on the guides. The machine shop is at a loss of what to do. I am going to tell them to machine the guides down a mm where it goes into the head and see what they say. They think the cam is to radical. .420 on the intake and .421 on the exhaust. I'll see what happens.

Engine is done. Got it running yesterday.

The head was finished thursday. Abacus machined the retainers down to fit the valve seals and replaced all guides. Started install on thursday afternoon. Started Lulu (i know its lame) and the timing belt jumped. Made an awful noise. I pulled it in the garage and looked at it. I adjusted the tensioner and put it back together. Did a compresion test and there were no bent valves, running about 240+ on compresion. 12.53:1 pistons. She started and is running. I have started tuning now. At the original setup there was allot of detonation so I have tuned it out and now have about 7 miles on it. Runs strong and have babying it for breakin. Wish me luck.

Hey Crate e-mail me. We live within 45 minutes of each other.

Tom

So now what is your complete setup? What do you have in your head? What in your block? what boltons?

When do you think you will have a dyno for us? I still want to compare a built h23 to a mild h22
