Installing an alarm??

How hard is it to actually install and alarm. the most wiring stuff i have done is a stereo. i can do other stuff, but I am wondering if the alarm is like a harness that you just plug and play or if you have to cut and splice. answers will be much appreciated!

OEM alarm is plug and play with a harness. I installed that on my 5th gen. I'm sure the 4th gen is same.

If you are good cutting and splicing to install car audio stuff, then should be capable of installing an alarm. The key is to identify all the right wires and their locations. Having a correct wiring diagram for your car is a must. I haven't done a full blown alarm yet, but I installed two remote starters in two different trucks I owned and both came out fine. The remote starters included stuff like keyless entry hookup. Basically, it was almost like a complete alarm install, the only things missing where the siren and shock sensor. Just take your time!

Aftermarket alarms are pretty hard, much more difficult than a stereo. Yep I've done it, wouldn't do it again.

Oh i do installs for a living (right now I work in an install shop), as long as you can follow directions, you should be ok. If you have any questions, feel free to mail me or PM me. I currently have a MANNAX 2way FM paging alarm w/remote start on mine.

the effectiveness of an alarm is about 90% install. If you have never done one, I suggest leaving it to a professional (not some rinky-dink corner shop), especially if there are warranties/money back issues.

On a more understanding note, try to have someone who knows alarms help you, or see if you can watch the pros while they put yours in.

Installed my Clifford arrow 3 over the summer, was a pain in the ass, but i got it done. Took my like 2 full days of sunlight, just need to follow the instructions/wiring diagram, Which is alot harder then it sounds.
