Indash Screen

I'm going to get an lcd screen and a seperate indash dvd player for the lude soon. The lcd screen will be replacing the car's clock inside the dash cluster, and the gas/temp gauge will be moved to the right and the screen be placed in the center. How big of a screen do you guys think I can fit in there?

Also, if anyone can hook it up with some stereo equiptment that would be great! My whole setup was stolen at school a couple of weeks ago.

I used to have a little 4" in there and it was an exact fit. It's only good for watching movies. If you have time and some extra $$$ go with the 7" instead of the 4" and mount it in the console like this one I made: click me

Why not make it easier and go for something like a Kenwood flip out screen with built in DVD player?

i think the biggest that can fit inside the plexi is 5" . I plan on doing this mod myself in the future. Maybe use it as a navigation system as well

Thats sweet man! The reason I want to mount the screen inside the cluster is because no thief would really anticipate a screen in there. They will just want to get in and out as fast as possible, if they see a screen in the dash, its good as gone. I am looking for a fiberglass project, so the molded indash screen hasnt been ruled out just yet.

HOLY CRAP MAN! I was looking at your setup with more detail and.....well...wow is all i can say. Mad props man, thats exactly what I've been wanting to do for a long time. After I see that you've done it, I have to do it too. Sorry if you think I'm going to try and rip off your idea...but I seriously have been thinking about putting a small computer in the car. It seems that all I need is a boost of motivation, Thanks dude.

I hope you dont mind me coming to you with wiring questions.

Is that screen with the honda in the background and options part of the copilot program? Also, how did you connect your sound card to the equalizer? Does the wires that comes with most sound cards connect directly into the clarion as if it was an rca? Do I need to connect annother power wire that comes with amp installation kit to the dc-dc powersupply?

o oh the questioning begins... j/k Anyways here goes...

To answer your first question, CoPilot is a 3rd party GPS/mapping software from Travroute with a retail price of $399. The Honda background and all other non-GPS functions (like MP3, movies and games) are custom programmed in XML. It's not that hard thanks to the user-friendly menus of MyHTPC (myhtpc.net).

Second, I just used a stereo phone jack to RCA adapter from Radioshack and it plugs into the "Radio in" on the EQ. Then its the EQ's job to split those into 4 channels so that you can input all 4 channels in your amp.

For your last question, I made my amp and EQ to come on whenever the PC is on. Notice the relay in the diagram that connects to the EQ and the two amps on my system. Pretty much the wiring diagram I made is the whole write up

The actual hardware can be found on my thread in the ICE forum. This is my redesigned unit (going for stealth mode this time):

I've got a 4" screen i may be putting behind my dash, if I don't sell it first. To me, if it's out of sight when off, I don't have to worry as much about a thief.

Where do you suggest me putting the computer in a 96 prelude si. I want it out of the way and hidden, inside the dash where you had it would be the best option...but I'm pretty sure I have an airbag there.

yea it won't fit under the dash because of the passenger airbag, that's why I modified my stock cd changer on my vtec If you want, you can make a custom plexiglass case, use a laptop hard drive instead of the regular, thick 3.5 drive and place it under the seat.

Ok, I'm that much closer now.....but i've run into a problem. The stereo to RCA jacks dont seem to be working....I have a Clarion EQS744 equalizer. Its being plugged into the "main in" and "aux in", either of which only seem to be giving me a humming noise.....What am I doing wrong?
