I'm back...94 Si

So, I found a Prelude earlier this week in the classifieds. White 94 Si, 190k miles. I look at it, looks good. Well, it doesn't run....okay

So, I paid $1,000 cash for it - the body was decent and the interior was reasonbly clean. I get the title, the guy puts 201,000 mi on it. Okay, not a big deal. Tonight I hook the car up to the Fit with jumper cables...it has 4 bars of gas and a whopping 214,000 miles. It's lowered right now - not sure what the suspension is. I'm going to get some bodywork done (new sunroof needed) and paint it either Championship White or Gran Prix White. That's it for now - I just bought something to tinker around with.

I pulled the valve cover off - everything looks normal, just a loose timing belt...so I yank on it and out it comes. Broken t-belt, who would have thunk it. Now I will pull the head off and see what the valves look like.

If I do the work, would it be cost-effective to get a H22, or just rebuild the h23a? I have no problem with the h23, but the h22 is much more fun.

I figure I would need all new seals, piston rings, valve seals...

h22/23 hybrid is doable, but the only thing is, after I source a decent complete head and sensors, I could have purchased a jdm h22 - I know of a personal horror story with the hybrid.

are they really as realiable if I'm not vtec-ing all the time?

it seems like i have heard two stories about the h22/23. seems like one guy built one and blew it up rather quickly. the other guy built and it lasted him a while. if i recall it was the differance in driving. I think I read it over on HT.

I would just go h22 swap.

Honestly, it's easy and while you want to tinker, project cars should be fun and running. Not always a project car.

Congrats on the purchase!!!

good idea peter. I'm going to pull the head off one night this week and check out the valves. I'll get it running for now so I can get the bodywork taken care of at my uncle's. Then I'll start with the motor. Does anyone have a glass sunroof? I may just replace mine with glass - the only concern I have is that light would always be coming in. Is this an issue or would some dark tint fix it? (20%)

If you want a glass sunroof, look up sean1311 (something like that) or go to ntpog . org.

He successfully put a 5th gen glass WITH sliding cover into his 4g and it looks OEM. You can't see the insides.
