Can someone explain how it works. Is it always on, when the headlight is on or something else.
I have the illuminated door switch and it has one extra connector which mean I have to wire it to something.

Yeah..they do!!!
but it has a 2 pin connector with 2 wires and I am trying to figure out what I can wire it to.
1. Headlight
2. Dimmer switch
or maybe the dashboard

info

you can run the wires to the parking light wire under the dash. Its is a Red wire with black stripe close to the drivers kick panel or at the factory alarm harness. Wire the other to chasis ground. When the parking lights come on, so will the LED illuminator.

Yes, 95 and up has ths feature.

I'm gonna add this to my pass. door, cause they are the ones who can't find it. I know my lude inside and out.
