Ignition Switch Issue?

From what I've read, I'm 99.99% sure this is an ignition switch issue. 1992 SI H23. The engine will stop on its own. Trying to start it, the engine will crank briefly, but stop. When things stop, the dash lights go out, gauges stop working. If I keep the key past it's normal resting point (towards crank) the dash works and the engine will stay on. (Drove 60 miles holding the #&#*& thing on)

Any tips on replacing the electrical portion of the switch?

Thanks

Ray

i've already had this problem b4. its 100% the ignition switch. i had a 92 SI so yea....it happened to me a few times b4 my dumb ass replaced it. Here's 2 things u can do, take off the switch portion, which is the white place circle piece and clean it because you'll probably find some rust in there. OR, u can go and buy another ignition switch from the dealers and replace it yourself. Word of advice tho, it is kind of a pain in the ass but it's doable. I have one that's sitting at my house if you want to buy mine. they sell for like 50-60 bucks but i'll sell it for 40.

Thanks for the reply/confirmation! I just picked up a new switch/harness this afternoon. They are a real pain to find, at least in my area (northern Maryland/Southern PA). Even though Honda no longer makes the prelude, one would think they would have shared the same switch assembly across many of their models and need to keep them in stock.

Massive bump coming right up...

(By the way, I have a 1997 5th gen JDM Si-R)

I have this same issue except mine has gone a step further. If i turn the key to the I postition it's trying to start. i.e the starter motor is turning. Therefore if I carry on driving it it's gonna destroy the starter motor.

My question is... Can I get a new key and barrel from a scrapped prelude and use that? Or would I have issues with the ecu and coding etc..?

Thanks

P.S. I've been told I need a new switch. Is there a difference between that and a barrel?
