ignition power source

If I'm wiring some electronic device to the ignition (gauge, radar detector, etc) what is a good source inside the car? under the hood?

I wired my gauge lights up to the dash light so they would dim with the dimmer control.

My radar detector plugs into the cig lighter, you could always hard wire to the back of it though.

If I add any more accessories im going to run another power line in fom the main underhood fuse box and put a distrubition block uner the dash somewhere to avoid shorting out the oem harness.

the fuse box under your dash has two spare spades for 12v sources. One is a constant 12v and the other turns off/on with the ignition. I recamend you use those for a cleaner install

naw they are not labeled. They are however side by side. And I think there are only like 4 spades under there anyway. Just use a test light on them, thats what I did.

As a referance if your under your dash you've got like a 2 rows of smaller fuses. above those are your relays and what not. The spades are there mixed in with the bigger fuses and relays. They are male connectors so use a female connector and some 8 gauge wire to run off of it

Run power off a fuse. All you need are spade connectors and Fuse taps - found at any electronics store like radio shack. If you notice the spade connect and the wires coming off them from the picture, that's where I got power. A good ground would be the knee bolster under the steering wheel. You would have to remove the trim to get to it. You can then remove the bolt and use a ring connect as a ground. Just make sure you sand the area to the metal.

Good fuses to run off when the ignition is turned are are:

1. Radio/clock
2. Defroster
