Idling problem 2

Ok, I had a post up here a few days ago about an idling problem. I figured it wasn't a vaccuum leak because I couldn't find any disconnected hoses. But now I have the sneakiest suspiscion it IS a vaccuum leak because when I opened my hood today I heard a hissing sound from the right side of my car(opposite side of the intake.) Now for the weird part. When I used to shut off my car I would hear a strong hissing for about two seconds and then a thuuuuummmmmmpppp as the intake sucked in it's last breath. Now when I turn of the car there is slight gurgling noise( as if fluid is swishing around) from the right side of the engine bay and instead of hearing the hiss all I hear is a slight thhhuuuummmmmpp five seconds after the car shuts off. Do I have a vaccuum leak?Do I need to clean my air filter? What the hell is going on.

ps: when it's hot my car idles at around 500 and occassionally drops to 250 for a second or two. When it's cold I normally don't have a problem.

Hmm........idle seems abit low. I think it should be about 750ish. Maybe your IAC valve is going? I would take a look at that.

No my ac is not on. I drive w/ the windows down; gotta love so cali. Does anyone have any other ideas. I had the idle air control valve checked and that wasn't it. I'm at a loss as to how to fix this thing man.

Hmm....I'm pretty sure you don't have a vaccum leak, because that usually causes your idle to go higher, and sometimes fluctuate drastically.

Have you checked your idle speed setting? Maybe you can play around with the idle adjust screw on the throttle body. Turn it counter clockwise to raise the idle.

Also did you check what the ignition timing is set at? That could be another possibility.

Hey you can also try cleaning out the throttle body and intake manifold, maybe alot of carbon has built up in there.

Good luck, I'll post more stuff if I think of anything else.

Eddie

Check your coolant level and see if it is low. Fill it up to the level it should be. Coolant level will affect the idle.

I used some fuel injector cleaner and turned the idle screw the RIGHT way (ccw) and now my lude runs like a dream. All of that because I turned the screw the wrong way in the first place. Oh well, it's fixed now. Thanks guys.
