Idle Problems....help please!

I have a F22B (H23A basically) and today it just started idling funny. Sometimes (very little sometimes) it will idle right, but most of the time the idle drops down so low, it doesnt register on the tach, and half the time it stalls itself out, even when i have it in neutral and the clutch depressed. I just changed the oil Sunday, with the same oil I normally use, a different filter though. I have about 60k on this motor, but about 135k miles on the car. Any help would be much appreciated. i do not know what it is, but the car seems to run fine once i "get going"

Edit: Nevermind, I need to pay attention when I read ... you drove it yesterday (monday) and it was fine though?

maybe there was just some bad gas in your tank, but that always seems like a really convenient answer, either way, I'll keep my fingers crossed that you won't hear/see this problem again.

I had the same problem on my h23. Could not find the problem so I just simply turned up my idle to 1500rpm. The car starts up at 1500rpm, then lowers to 1000rpm, and the car wants to keep going down but manages to stay above 750rpm keeping it alive. If anyone has a solution to this problem, please share it with me...

you know 750 is where it's supposed to warm-idle though, right?

Yea I realize that, that is the lowest it'll go to, usually the idle is over 1000. If it hits 750 I know I'm in trouble, I'll have to either rev until it goes back up or it'll die and loose my power steering (its scary when you dont expect it...).

ahh, i see what you're saying, although it's supposed to warm idle at 750, on your car when it gets down there you're sure it'll stall.

Yea, its weird, we've checked everything we could on the car, the spark plugs, the timing belt , turned the car inside out, and even sent it to honda. The only thing we can do is raise the rev.

you might want to check the resistance of the spark plug wires

remember.. only three things can cause engine problems

fuel, ignition, mechanical

=)

oh.. forgot to ask.. did you have everything changed out on the f22b before you put it into the car.. things like timing belt and water pump?

also.. the previous owner may not have gotten a valve adjustment.. you may want to look into that

once you get all that basic maintainance stuff out of the way.. you might have a clearer picture of where you stand

but i really would like to know if you changed the belt and water pump

reason being is i have a f22b sitting in one of my ludes right now... from what i understand.. i need a accord water pump and a gates 121 tooth belt
but i just wanted to double check

I know that the same thing happened to my car when I changed the clutch. Put everything back together and got a CEL. The car felt like it was dying..............it would stall anytime I let go of the gas.......if it didn't stall revs would just go up and down, up and down.

Turns out I had lost the little pin that connects the two halves of the vss. Once I got the little pin back in there the VSS started working fine. Once the CEL was gone the car began to idle perfectly.......like of nothing had ever happened.

Don't know if this'll help but can't hurt to know I guess.

Oh...one other thing. Have you checked the IAC yet? I know that this gets really dirty and can cause a rough idle on the car. This is actually the next thing I'm checking.

what's IAC? my car does that sometimes too... like when i'm stopped at a stop light... the rpm will drop down until the engine starts shaking and right before it stalls, rpms goes up again... also... since couple days ago... my speedometer will stay at around 15-30 mph when i'm completely stopped... i get scared 'cuz when i'm going 60 on the highway... i feel like i'm going faster than everyone else... or is everyone in ATL just driving slow??? i was thinking about getting a new speedometer but... can't find one... and don't want to spend the money... haha please help me out someone...
