Idea's on how to make my 95 si a sleeper

Hey, I just got my 95 si with the h23 as you all know and I need ideas on how to make it a sleeper, anything to gain horsepower without forced induction. maybe a small shot of nitrous but I need to also know what I need to do to the engine before I could do that. I wish I had a vtec but I couldn't find one anywhere, now I need some more power to catch up with them. any ideas are helpful no matter how crazy. please no flaming for the newbie post. also no need to include cai, exhaust, header unless it's talking about which brand is better. thanks alot guys. later

There's no reason to regret the purchase of an Si. They are a great platform to build off of. Many people say they have more torque due to the extra .1 liters but they are pretty evenly matched as far as torque is concerned. I've owned both and I don't think there is much difference between the two engines in terms of torque. They both move.

As far as mods go, look into cams (there is a discussion here about a company - Crower making cams for the H23), port and polish, valves, retainers, springs etc.

If you are going to spray I would look into beefing up the bottom end also with new rods and pistons. You can also look into installing VTEC oil squirters in the block to keep everything cool down there.

Also, look into APR studs and bolts to handle the extra pressure.

I'm by no means an expert in performance because I am a shower not a goer. I'm sure others will be able to give you some great NA ideas.

Mark

I used to be H23 powered as well. The engine is a great one but it just dies up top. I was sick of hitting a wall at 5000 rpms so I went with a JDM H22 swap. I can say that I have no regrets. I was afraid of loosing the low end torque of the H23 but there really isn't that much difference between the two.

As for getting more HP out of the H23, your best bet is prolly going to the cams if they ever get made. Unfourtunately it is a little more difficult to wring out more power from Honda engines compared to others.

HTH,

ya, i did, that would be awesome if we could do that, is it true that the low end on non-vtecs like mine wouldn't suffer as much from the new cam? anyways, keep the ideas coming and thanks for the advice mark.

Nitrous is pretty safe on the H series if you do it right. check out the nitrous forum, specifically the stickied threads which give a great intro on the topic. good luck

all the bolt-ons, a new clutch and a wet kit (preferrably NX) with a 50 shot jet installed, WITH new tires and you're close to the 13s right there.

5800 RPMS actually. Peak torque is 4600 RPMS. Stock, mine used to wimp out right at 6000, now with I/H/E, it pulls all the way up to 6500ish. It really pulls when the secondary runners open up.

For a sleeper, I recommend I/H and pullies.

1) They just went up in price from about 130 for new ones, to 165ish.
2) The finances of a college student who lives in an Apt. are quite tight.

No nitrous is not a form of forced induction. Forced induction implies that it is not the engine that pulls the air in but an outside mechanism (turbo/supercharger) forces the air into the cylinders under pressure. The main difference is the air pressure inside the intake manifold. Most NA cars will never see a positive manifold pressure while forced will see it most of the time.

Having said that how does injecting a combustion enhancing agent (N2O, Nitrous Oxide) into the combustion chambers qualify as forced induction?

Thanks, bye,
