I think I killed my H22...over revved

Well for some unknown reason other than my own stupidity I missed 4th gear last night. I redlined it in 3rd, threw it into fourth, let out of the clutch, mashed the gas and the car went no where other than me pegging the rpm needle at over 9000 revolutions. So now I'm dealing with 4 problems: It won't start unless I mash the gas. Then it won't Idle I have to keep the rpms over 1200 to keep it running. I smell hardcore gasoline fumes and the check engine light is on. I checked underneath for leaking and found nothing. I checked all visible vacuum hoses and they are all still connected. The car is a 1999 supercharged prelude and I was wondering what could be damaged to be causing these symptoms. Any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

BTW I meant to post this in 5th Gen Section so could a mod please move it there

Skipped a few teeth on the timing belt and/or bent some valves, I'd say you're fawked. If it were me I'd pull the SC and vavle cover to check for any visible signs of problems as well as the cam timing. Next step is to do a compression test and in your case I'd have a leakdown done as well to try and determine if its only the head that went on you. Good luck and when you get it fixed I'd watch those redline shifts.

It goes fine down the road/interstate and sounds normal above 2K rpms. I can shift normal its just when I have to idle the motor cuts off. Would that extra info rule out anything you said? Damn I really screwed up the motor this time.......

^no because the symptoms you stated are generally problems with bent valves/skipped teeth.

Oh alright thanks. Do you have any idea how much it costs to repair bent valves or the timing belt?

Just because the fuel cuts off at 8.5k doesn't mean that the motor won't go past it if you mishift.

i don't think he misshifted thats when you go into a lower gear and force it to rev higher then the rev limiter will allow, it sounds like he just floored it in neutral from redline on up into what would be the rev limiter?

The rev limiter didnt kick in at all, the needle was pegged way past 8000 rpms. yeah i floored it in nuetral when it felt like it was really in fourth.

ohhh ok... I read the original post too fast, saw the word missed and assumed it was a mishift.
