I need help with my JDM H22

Im putting a JDM H22A in my prelude because I threw a rod in my original H22 engine. I've ran into a problem though.
There has been enough stuff on the JDM that was different in the first place (no sensors in some places, fuel rail backwards, etc).

On my original engine there is a sensor coming out the lower sides of the timing cover. For one, what is this sensor? And two, what are the effects if I dont hook it up? On the JDM engine there is no place to hook up that sensor. Does anyone know where/what this sensor goes? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx...

When I swapped out my H23 I just swapped over all the sensors that the H22 didnt have.
I used my entire H23 harness on the H22 and added the VTEC wires when I was done.

Hey Absolut,

Where did you connect the VTEC wires? Did you run it straight to the ECU? And how many were there? I've heard two, others say three? Thanx!

Thanx man. Im leaning towards just ignoring the thing because I have to take apart the whole sideblock to put that sensor on the JDM engine and I already have everything ready to go. This is the only thing holding me up.

btw, im in the US.

I just thought maybe it could have to do something with OBDII since 96 is the only year of the 4th gen they got OBDII in??

hey john is your lude a 96????? is your h22 a obdI?????? if so you will need to put a obdII oil pump in the h22 and a crank angle sensor, or it won't even turn over. i have a 96 and put a obdI h22 in mine. just got it running sat. hope this helps. and you'll love the jdm

Right to the ECU connector.
When I got the JDM ecu, it came with the jdm connector and like 8 inches of wires. I used a small screwdriver and popped out the 2 vtec pins and inserted them into my USDM harness in the appropriate locations. Then I soldered more wire onto them to extend them into the engine bay.
I can take some pics if you really need em.

Your car will already have the VTEC wires if it is an Si, if your car is an Si/4WS or it is an S, it will Not have them.

It's a 94 Si. No 4WS. I'll have to look at the harness again tonight.

And pictures will be great! I'm a visual learner anyways...

If the sensor is not on the lower side of the timing covers then it's in your distributor. I had read a bit about that but we ran into this too just a few hours ago. What you will need to do is:

Check the distributor, there are 2 connectors on it, compare them on both engines, one connector is the same and the other one has 8 wires vs 4 I think because the one with 8 wires has that sensor builtin the distributor. You need to either connect the distributor that has 8 wires on that connector and leave the sensor on the lower timing cover unplugged or use the distributor with the 4 wires and connect the sensor on the lower timing cover.

I'd go with whichever way doesn't need you to pass wires from one side of the engine to the other but that's up to you. I decided to use my old distributor and leave the sensor on the lower timing cover unplugged since the harness I used had the 8 wire connector.

Also what difference it'll make? I've heard that if you connect the sensor on the lower timing cover you won't be able to alter your timing. I think that's the only difference but don't quote me on this. I think it's a crankshaft position sensor or something like that...
